Burping techniques

DS2 is 5.5mo and ebf. I usually hold him upright after a feed for a few mins, sometimes pat his back lightly, and he'll do a burp.

He wakes several times a night at the moment and I just end up bfing back to sleep and placing him back in his cot. He'll often wake again ten mins later. Sometimes when I pick him up then he does a burp and pretty much falls back to sleep quickly if I rock or cradle him. Other times I'll feed him again and after a few sucks he's fast asleep.

He doesn't always burp when I pick him up but I do wonder if some of the waking soon after I put him down is because he's got wind.

What are your techniques for winding a sleeping baby after a night feed? I hold him on my shoulder for a bit but he never burps at night immediately after a feed

Honestly... Infacol was my saviour. Wind came up within 10 mins, always. It pretty much eliminated the waking up in the hour after a feed.

Also, light patting might not be enough. My HV demonstrated the force of patting suitable to wind a baby and it was far more than I would have ever used if she hadn't shown me! Hard to describe how much force that is (and isn't!) though.

Could you pop him on your shoulder to wind him, he will fall asleep on you and then transfer him to his cot

I sit baby on my lap, looking at me, twist the from the waist first one way, then the next. If there's a burp it will appear in seconds.

That or walk up the stairs!
