Does expressing breastmilk get less weird?

I just tried expressing with a manual pump for the first time, my LG is three weeks old and I thought I'd have a bit of a practice and store a bit of milk in case of emergencies. I have a Tommee Tippee closer to nature manual pump. I really didn't like the sensation of expressing, is it something that you get used to over time? Are the different types of pump different or is it all much of a muchness?

An electric one is even weirder (but can be more efficient). To me it was always weird but I just did it anyway (until ds decided he wouldn't take a bottle anymore and I had to wait till he could use a sippy cup).

not sure about manual as I hav an electric pump but yes it gets less wierd!

I express twice a day at work so ds can hav milk at nursery. it will be odd when I stop!!

its a good idea to build a stash up. even if they wont take a bottle at any point they might change their mind!

ds wouldn't take one until he started nursery

I found it felt better if I could do it while lo fed from the other side. Seemed less odd then. And I used to look at a photo at other times!

I used to get a very funny feeling when expressing, sort of like a squeemish feeling as if i was watching something gory- I used to cover the pump with my jumper as not watching helped! I had a double electric one(a Lansinoh one)

I must be weird- expressing fascinates me! I get a sense of pride at producing a few oz's of milk to stick in the freezer... To the point that I have a freezer drawer full of milk which the baby won't drink from a bottle so fairly pointless, but I still carry on :-/ I think it stems from the feeding struggles I had with dd where every drop was hard fought and I couldn't bear to waste any- I'm paranoid about my supply this time :-) I use a double electric (spectra dew) and don't find it any weirder that having a squirmy wriggly snuffly thing constantly attached to my boob Wink

If it really bothers you, do you 'need' to express? My sister never did as she was the same- she decided that if it was her sanity vs formula for the odd feed she'd grab the formula :-)

Good luck!
