Baby puking my blood from bleeding nips

Hi ladies this is fairly grim so apologies if TMI. One of my nipples is very cracked. DS 2 is 5 months EBF and it's been hellish won't go into it but he is feeding on it obviously getting a lot of blood (possible puss[Shock)then puking a fair amount back ( reflux baby anyway). My question is will my blood harm him? I Went to the docs and she said avoid feeding on that boob but I've just got over a bought of mastitis and don't want another round.
Will he be ok with a little of my blood?

Yes he will be fine - I had this when DD was tiny and the health visitor and midwife and the ladies at the local bf cafe all said it was fine, as blood is pretty similar to breast milk apparently.
Breast shells are what finally kickstarted my nipples healing without having to stop feeding, as they stop your bra sticking to them and squishing them down. Obviously it was easier when almost housebound in those early days though but they aren't too hard to wrangle discreetly if you feed out of the house.

I have not heard of breast shells moggle I shall try get some tomorrow. Thank you.

If it's oversupply causing the mastitis, then soya lecithin supplements may help.

Try hydrogel pads on the nips. Store them in your fridge.

Thanks stargirl. It's thrush, mastis, bleeding nips it's agony and horrible. No problem with DS1 but this time yuck.

It was the other way round for me. DD1 was trouble but DD2 was much easier.

I used the Medela Breast shells to help heal my nips. I would also recommend the Multi-Mam nipple compresses.

Blarblarblar · 02/04/2015 20:21

Yeah I've been loving the multi mam but a ran out last week. I have to say if this was my first Im not sure I would have persevered. I loved feeding DS1 and I want to enjoy my last baby and give him the same start but it's getting tough.

My eldest had silent reflux and when I started using formula it got so much worse. She just screamed and screamed. The worst day was 13 hours of screaming without pause or nap when she was 5 months old.

Have you considered tongue tie or CMPI? Are you getting help with the reflux?

Blarblarblar · 02/04/2015 21:40

He had a 70% tongue tie but wasn't spotted for month and I suspect his habits had formed it was very sore. I've had help with infant feeding specialist but she can see no problem with his or my technique.
His reflux isn't silent he projectile vomits excorsist style but it seemed to be calming down. I was offered meds but my friend is a GP and advised me to try manage without if I could and I did. Held him upright after feeding for nearly an hour when really wee but it's eased off to about 15mins. My niece had silent reflux and I feel for you it was awful for her and mum.
What is CMPI?

It is Cows Milk Protein Intolerance. The only way to check is for you to go dairy free for a while and see if things improve. In a few weeks, solids may help too.

Reflux is hell. Bf can be hell! Look after yourself! Wine may help Smile

Blarblarblar · 02/04/2015 22:21

Thanks stargirl I'm on it (wine that is) take care, appreciate the advice.

Ps I can't gp dairy free! I've cut out all sugars and bread for the thrush (treated myself to wine tonight very naughty) I'd Starve!!! Grin

Breast milk is a by product of your blood so am sure he will be fine

westcountrywoman · 03/04/2015 21:53

He'll be fine. I suffered hideous thrush with DD and bled often. Just avoid passing him to your smartly dressed relatives post-feed (I speak from experienceShock). He's probably not getting as much blood as you think.
I found Daktacort really helped the healing. It's not really recommended for breast thrush and you do have to wash it off before a feed but it worked very well.

Blarblarblar · 05/04/2015 04:00

Thank you Anna and West, I appreciate the comments. I took him to the BFing specialist at the hospital on Friday and she reassured me that although I was in pain etc he was fine and to think of it like him getting a, I shall quote her" lovely black pudding" GAAG!!!!
I'll not give him to anyone West, he got my beige carpet yesterday that's fooked. I'm using Daktarin and on tablets been for nearly two weeks and the thrusj ain't budging, ironing bras etc.
The other breast has really started bleeding now aswell. It's just so painful!!!
