Sore Nipples

Hi,
I have one very sore nipple DS went on a feeding frenzy when he had a cold, and it started then. It went very red and sensitive, the redness has gone abit now though. When he latches on, it really painful (his latch is fine) and when he sucks. Its like its overused and over sensitive Can I do anything to help it?

Thanks

Lansinoh. (sp?) it's pure lanolin. Should be able to get it from the pharmacy. It's expensive, (£10) but you don't have to wash it off before feeding, and it made the difference between giving up and continuring for me... Absolutely marvellous stuff.

I used to use kamilosan [sp] I think anything with Lanolin [sp] is good. I have just bought the Spaanish equivalent and it really is helping.

i had a look in tesco - all they had was kamil something... can you BF with that?

Hi QP, yes you can feed with Kamillosan, it's good for sore bums too when your nipple heals. Try to get some air to your nip but remember not to answer the door to the postman.

SaintQuootiepie · 01/11/2006 09:52

I was splashing it with freezing cold water last night it hurt so much!

Did that help???? Try something cold and soothing like natural yoghurt or a cold chamomile teabag in your bra.

yeah, it did abit. Felt like they were on fire! Sore against clothes aswell - like that joggers tit thing.

'joggers tit' really made me laugh!
My nips get like this with thrush and it's awful isn't it? As I said tho cream and fresh air do work. Also try to feed a bit more from the other side and give it a rest -it won't affect anything for a day. Does it hurt to express - for me it does but if not that might help, hand expressing in the bath worked for me.

SaintQuootiepie · 01/11/2006 11:42

Hurts to express, yes. Wouldnt be thrust, would it? Its not painful unless he feeds, or I brush it on something.

If it's thrush it would hurt like hell AFTER feeding and only lessen if you press hard on your boob if that makes sense. Sounds like a classic case of overuse to me, more usual on post natal wards than at 7 months!!

oh right

Are you using the new pump?

Could it be theextra suction from that?

I'm having similar problems atm (8 months)but is definitely an overuse issue here.

SaintQuootiepie · 01/11/2006 13:19

I had the problem the day before I used the super pump Havent used it since that 1st time though, as it makes it hurt aswell...

Ladies, give your boobs a break!
Actually you just reminded me to get the pump out and empty 'em 'cos I'm off for a massage -yippee.
