Baby pulling hard off nipple

Hi,
My 19 week old has recently started pulling off the nipple with his mouth firmly clamped on. This is pretty painful! Anything I can do to try and stop him doing this?
Thanks!

I was once advised by a breastfeeding supporter that if you need baby to unclamp (i.e. before turning head around to look at something distracting!) to gently hold his nose closed. I guess then baby has to open his mouth to breath. Obviously let go of his nose as soon as possible!
Good luck!

My DS 6.5 months) does this. He goes through phases. It's like he has an overwhelming urge to come off but doesn't have time to unlatch.... It hurts!!
I think it coincides with teething pain.
My dd (2.7now) also did it.

The only way I ever found to combat it was to pay attention. See the signs and preempt the movement.
DS sort of pulls off, stares very seriously at me and then goes back on, repeat 3/4 times then feeds as normal.

Be glad they don't have teeth yet!

Ha! Love the description of the Serious Stare. Aren't babies funny. Mine does it when she wants to burp.

Thanks all. Will try and preempt. Am definitely dreading teeth!

Don't dread the teeth too much, unless your baby cuts teeth early it shouldn't actually happen.

My dd never bit me with teeth, she cut her first at 8 months and I fed her until 18months. She had learned though by 8 months that biting was for food and not milk. Around weaning age I taught her that if she bit I would stop her feed. I'll do the same with DS.
