They can have all sorts of colours while still being ok. If they are well in themselves then I wouldn't worry

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 01/04/2015 20:47

It's normal - it means he may be fighting a virus. As long as he's otherwise well then don't worry. Your HV should reassure you.

My two have pooed the colours of the Irish counties in their time.

Polka your reply is misleading sorry :(
It's not necessary to 'drain' the first breast and not even possible. Green poo is normal in most babies.

CorporeSarnie · 01/04/2015 21:02

Perfectly normal, don't worry. Especially if it is only a couple of times. If you're concerned about hind milk vs. foremilk, have a look at [http://www.breastfeedingmums.com/dr_jack_newman_breast_compression.htm JackNewman], but honestly don't fret. DD and DS have pooed as babies from revolting green through to bright orange, and all the colours in between.

Polka don't want to argue with you or your Hv Smile but the fact is that feeding until the flow has slowed is still not a generally helpful notion. The guide to when to switch sides lies with the baby's behaviour. This is not the thread to go into this as the original issue was not this. Pm me if you want more info Smile

I agree with the very knowledgeable Tiktok and others on here. Green poo does sometimes happen, along with myriad other colours and it's usually nothing to worry about in a healthy, happy, thriving baby.

The foremilk/hindmilk thing is still quite ingrained as a myth. I have heard the odd health visitor here and there, plus lots of well meaning relatives say the same thing whilst peer supporting. Inaccurate ideas around draining the breast and babies missing out on hindmilk are still quite common.

They do this! Smile Greeny yellow, mustard yellow, greeny green ... had them all over the last few months.

...though now mines starting solids I'm bang back in "is this normal" territory!Wink

Plenty of supplements change the colour of poo - in adults, too :)

You could call the manufacturers of the vitamins and ask them - there will almost certainly be a consumer advice line or website on the package.
