Post nasal drip remedies and BF

Sorry if this isn't in the right place.

Every now and then i get a cold which, for me, always results in a post nasal drip and cough.

This cough is keeping me and my baby awake!

I'd normally use a sudafed nasal spray at night to stop the drip.... Can I still do this while BF???

NHS website not very helpful...

Sorry realise that doesn't help! I have previously read that decongestants could affect milk supply.
You could use a saline nasal spray safely for definite - I found it useful when pregnant with sinusitis.

That's what I've read too. Thought maybe the spray would be less of a risk. :(

So annoying. My baby is sleeping through at the moment and now I'm keeping her awake!!

Only 4 months old so can't leave her on her own :(

Sterimar spray is what I had.

It's tricky isn't it- I did end up using a couple of sprays of decongestant when pregnant as I simply couldn't sleep or breathe! Was terrified I would harm baby but was being induced the next day and needed sleep!

Bumping this just incase. Feel like death warmed up!!!

I think the problem re milk supply is usually caused by oral decongestants.

The cough & cold remedies factsheet at www.breastfeedingnetwork.org.uk/detailed-information/drugs-in-breastmilk/drugs-factsheets/ says:

"Nasal decongestant sprays or drops will act directly on the nasal passages to relieve congestion and reduce absorption into the mother's body. These may prove to be a safer alternative to decongestant tablets."

Anecdotally, I use Sudafed nasal spray pretty much every day at the moment (have sinus problems and can't breathe through my nose without it), and have had no problems whatsoever with milk supply (in fact I think I produce too much as boobs are often full/leaking even though DS is feeding pretty much constantly at the moment).
