Only taking 1oz at night!

My DD is six weeks old and is ff. She happily takes 4 to 5 oz per feed during the day, but for the last couple of nights she has taken 1oz and then started crying if I start to encourage her to take any more. This happens at her midnight feed and around 4am feed. Has anyone experienced this? The only thing I can think of is that her body might be taking less at night in order to gear up for sleeping through... Is this just wishful thinking? Any experiences?

Ok I might get flamed for this because she is so young , but if it was me I would give her a wee drink of water instead of milk for a few night and I bet she will stop waking for the night feed and sleep right through . Just add the 1oz on somewhere else . Bedtime would be most logical . HTH Smile

It does sound like she is dropping the night feeds by herself. May not last as she will have hungry phases when taking a growth spurt. Trust your instincts & hers. If she only wants 1oz, it seems reasonable to me

I would not give a baby of that age water instead of milk.

Water not a good idea in a baby of six weeks - do check with your HV before you do this, hanflan.

Just go with your baby's flow. What you are describing has only happened on two nights - she may well change back, or yes, she might start sleeping longer.

My ds is 6.5 weeks and has started taking less during the night only wanting 1 or 2oz in the middle of the night. Hes also started 'snacking' rather than having a full feed in the day which is frustrating and wasting loads of milk. The only way I can get him out of this is to get him to have a long nap and be properly hungry to have a full bottle. I'm struggling to know when hes actually hungry unless he cries too Sad x
