I've just had (possibly still have) gastroenteris symptoms but I ended up having to take prochlorperazine because I couldn't do it anymore.

My last dose was last night and now I have to express until Wednesday evening and throw my milk away.

How often should I express/drain my breasts to keep up my supply? Dd is 5 months.

I asked my mum to take dd to hers last night because I was so worried she'd get sick. So she'll have been having bottles or formula in the night.

It's worth trying to resume breastfeeding isn't it? I wanted to breastfeed her until she weaned herself. But part of me just feels so run down lately that I'm wondering if I should just call it a day now :(

please contact the Breastfeeding Network drugs and breastmilk line.

its most unlikely that you need to not feed your baby.

Wendy Jones the pharmacist from the helpline states in her book that it is 'probably compatible with breastfeeding if used short term. avoid long term or where child is at risk of apnoea'

it is licensed to be given directly to children over 10kg

What SecretSpy says - Lactmed says "Based on minimal excretion of other phenothiazine derivatives, it appears that occasional short-term use of prochlorperazine for the treatment of nausea and vomiting poses little risk to the breastfed infant."

I agree with contacting the breastfeeding network. I sent an email regarding some medication and the pharmacist had replied within a couple of hours. If they say you can't feed then I would express as often as your dad would usually feed.

Dd not dad!

I agree call the breast feeding network for advice they are the experts. You may well be able to feed.
I was critically ill after the birth of my youngest ds and needed to 'pump and dump' due to the meds I had to take. I was told to pump whenever I'd be feeding, if your baby is under 6 months the advice was not less than 4 hourly to maintain a constant supply.

Thank you everyone. There's the helpline that opens at 9.30 so I'll ring that. I hope that's the right one.

My mum is bringing dd home in a minute . I missed her little snuffly noises and smell Grin I hope I get the ok to feed her.

Hope you feel better soon Flowers and just to reassure you you'll get an honest answer from the helpline - when there was a particular drug I needed to take (long term) with dd1 the pharmacist was so helpful but said it wasn't ok to take it and keep feeding and explained why.

Thank you Brew

I phoned up and they said the risk of harm is very minimal/unlikely from a one off dose so I think I'm just going to carry on. Yay!

Thanks again everyone Grin
