lactose intolerance, cmpi or cmpa?

DC2 is 4.5weeks old and bf but I desperately need to get her on to ff for my own health (desperately need a number of medications at high doses which have too much transfer in breastmilk to be safe for baby - I'm already on all the maximum dosages of all the medication options the Dr can give me which have levels safe enough for baby, which I am still worried about and aren't enough for me).

As a bf baby she has had an awful lot of wind and a few spit ups after every feed and has needed to be kept upright for a while after feeding. Infacol was enough to deal with the wind, although the number and size of burps coming up were shocking, especially for a bf baby.

To introduce ff I was trying to introduce new bottles each day, and reduce bf until she was fully ff in around a week. Over the 3days I have done this she was getting more and more windy to the point of being colicy, the spitups were getting bigger and bigger and there were an ever increasing number after each feed until last night when it culimated in horrendous projectile vomiting, screaming and obviously severe tummy pains.

Since last night I have soley bf and shes gone better again back to bringing up her wind with infacol and smaller fewer spit ups after each feed.

Also her skin has been quite dry but on the introduction of ff this has got vastly worse - I don't know if that's coincidence or not.

So basically I don't think she right on bm but I think she's reacting very badly to formula. To those with experience do you think its most likely to be lactose intolerance, cmpi or cmpa?

I will see if I can get her to gp on Monday but I am really worried. I had hoped to have her fully ff by Monday/Tuesday, it really is imperative to my health to change her over but I need her to be happy and healthy too. Is it worth buying some lactose free SMA from boots to test out?

Sorry for really long post, I just want to give as much information as possible and sorry for any typos DD is cluster feeding at moment.

It's very unlikely to be lactose, lactose intolerance in babies is very rare and serious as breastmilk is also full of lactose (milk sugar).

Oh and my diet is very low in dairy. I don't like cheese and milk very much so the only dairy I get is in foods like bread, where its just an ingredient, and I occasionally have cheese on a pasta bake.

Can you go to an OOH GP, explaining your situation, and see if you can get hypoallergenic formula on prescription? S/he may also consider reflux meds, although newborns are often refluxy, which resolves naturally within a few weeks.

Agree with Keturah that it's highly unlikely to be lactose intolerance, more like CMPI.

Congratulations on your baby and well done for BFing as long as you have Thanks

We had exactly the same symptoms, plus angry thrashing at breast and and generally a very unhappy baby. Agree with all the above, unlikely to be lactose intolerance. it took 12 weeks Angry for my DD to be diagnosed with CMPA/I and reflux and paying to see a private pediatrican, gaviscon is crap (excuse my french) and we've been prescribed renitadine and aptamil pepti 1 formula. Seen some improvements over the last week.

Hope you get sorted soon I know how depressing it can get I've been there

agree that lactose intolerance in babies is extremely rare.
Hope im not overstepping the mark as obviously I have no idea what medications you need but sometimes GP's don't always know which medications are safe to use when bf so they just say they're not. This website has some great info, I think theres a lady who is a high up pharmacist type person who if you email her the meds you need she will tell you if they're safe. (because of her qualifications GP's will listen to her) i'll try and find out her name if you want.
