is this reflux? Can I do anything?

So burping lo has often brought up possets of milk, but it has been getting steadily worse over the last few days, going from every so often to (yesterday & today) 2-3 times after every feed.
He will also spend 10-15 minutes crying inconsolably on mine or his dad's shoulder after this has happened. Sometimes he'll cough & splutter like he's choking, but this is only every so often. He often seems to be in pain when passing wind or bowl movements as well.

a) Is it reflux?
b) if so, is it the serious reflux or just a laundry issue?
c) is there anything I can do to help him, bar keeping him upright during & after feeds? I'm breastfeeding so can't switch to a different formula.

Am I just being a neurotic ftm? I feel like I spend a lot of my time looking for what is going wrong, or what I'm doing wrong...

:( poor you and poor baby :(

How old is your baby?

What does your HV say?

What about weight agin?

Could this be over-supply?

vradz83 · 13/03/2015 19:51

Lo is 4 weeks 2 days, & started at 8 lb 7, dropped to 8lbs then went back up to 8 lb 6 @ 12 days, 9 lb 1 @ 19 days. He'll be weighed again on Monday but I don't know about gain in the last 10 days. Will see HV then too -haven't seen her in a couple of weeks so haven't been able to discuss it.

I am trying to manage/reduce over supply at the moment, but don't seem to have that forceful a letdown so didn't know whether that was related? Coughing/spluttering is usually after feeding rather than during...

You are not a neurotic first time Mum, you are doing brilliantly and observing her and trying to work out what will make her happy. Majority of babies posset but you know this. At 4 weeks they may well just not like the feeling, one of mine used to cry after sneezing. Remember everything is new to them. Some babies reflux a lot when going through a growth spurt. However if your instincts are telling you that this is not right, then go to your GP and ask whether a trial of dairy free diet is appropriate for you. I am told by my GP that this is now the first line of treatment for babies with reflux of BF mums. (When I say 'treatment' - again I must make it clear that reflux is normal and what you describe is normal, but for some babies it seems to cause a lot of pain or affect feeding / growing, and needs addressing).
