Anyone given LO fennel tea??

Hi,

My lo is 3 months & gets really bad stomach cramps & wind. He seems sensitive to everything i eat (he's breastfed). Most recently strawberries. I've cut out dairy which has had a great effect. But he's still getting bad tummy cramps - these wake him up all the time.

If we give him gripe water it really helps soothe him and he can sleep better. But id rather give him something natural. Has anyone tried fennel tea? If so does it work and how do you make it?

Gripe water is natural. If you read the ingredients it's got herbs in it. If it helps, why not use it?

I used to give my dd peppermint tea via a syringe and it was the best thing for wind it truly was.

In other countries it is common but not here because they like to make money from us!

I'm sure gripe water has E numbers

I used to buy the tea bags from tesco/m&s. They were caffeine free and all natural. Make with hot kettle water. Wait until cool then syringe some into lo mouth!

If you do it please update us. I'm certain lots of babies go through screaming fits with trapped wind when they need not!

Yeah Gripe Water helps but it does have added extras in it and we're giving him so much of it if I can just give him tea id prefer that.

How much should I make up? How weak should it be?

Used to buy fennel tea granules from Milupa, not sure if available in UK.

I used to.
I still use it for myself and the DCs.

I would pop it in a normal cup, give it a few squeezes, pop in the fridge to cool then serve.

Gripe water may have natural herbs that have their scientific names on the bottle.
Salt, peppermint, lemon juice etc all have their own "E numbers". It's important to know which mean artificial additives and which are just jargon for natural things.

I gave mine Milupa baby tea from birth. Fennel is the main ingredient. You can get it online in the UK but it is readily available on the continent. It's also known as Kindertee.

I definitely think it helped. I would make a bottle of 4oz with one scoop of tea and she would take whatever she wanted. It does have sugar in it though so the cooled plain tea bags might be better if you prefer to go no sugar. Milupa Kindertee is just granules you add to cooled boiled water or you can mix with milk but dd didn't like that.

Our pediatrician and the midwives in the hospital here all said I could use it daily even to space feeds! I don't do that but it was just to illustrate that it's a very popular product here everyone swears by it.

Yes mine all had fennel tea - I used the baby granules when I was in Germany - it's very normal to give here - even given in the hospital. In the UK I just used an organic bag and made it up in a sterilised cup.

As they got older (toddler and beyond) I used to mix it with apple juice as a drink for them.
