I'm going away for the weekend without baby - what do I do about BF?

Hi, my husband and I are going away for a weekend in May to a wedding, and my mum has agreed to look after the little one whilst we are away. She will be 9 months old then and has been combination fed. I'm not sure what to do about breastfeeding - I have a pretty good supply and have been feeding on demand with three formula top up feeds per day. My daughter is happily feeding from bottle and breast, but I'm a bit worried about losing all my supply whilst I'm away. Or perhaps I should take this chance to move completely to formula feeding as will be going back to work a month or two after. So I have eight weeks to make a plan. Any advice?

Take a breast pump with you if you'll still be feeding then. I went away from my LO when they were 8 months and still feeding. Took my pump which broke, was in extreme pain due to engorging so ended up expressing by hand into a toilet in heathrow airport! Not the best look.
Couldn't wait to feed him when I got back.
When I did go back to work I dropped a feed a day until I was down to one morning feed then dropped that one and didn't have any problems stopping.

If you want to keep feeding them but a pump!

At 9 months your supply may well be fine, or it may take a slight dip and bounce back but it's unlikely to be badly affected. You will likely need to express for your own comfort. Have fun Smile

Thanks everyone, I haven't used a breast pump before - is there benefits to using a manual or electric pump?

If you are just using it for that weekend, a manual is cheaper.

If you want to express after going back to work, an electric is more efficient.

It's worth trying hand expressing before you buy a pump. Some mothers get on better with it anyway and of course it's free!

Yes, I could hand express - I think I have a manual pump somewhere - I will dig it out and start giving it a go to see how it works! Thanks for advice everyone!
