Wind, burps & posseting question

Hi all,

This may be a really silly question - ftm so I apologise! Ds is 4 weeks old & has had wins from start. Infacol has made quote a big difference, but for the last week or so quite often when we burp him, he'll burp but also bring up a bit of milk. Not every feed, but on the feeds he does it it will be 2-3 little possets.

I've been bring him maybe twice mid - feed, then after as well. But I was then thinking - should I stop feeding him after he has vomited? Does that mean that he's actually full, & I'm just encouraging him to overeat?? He will never actually take himself off the breast voluntarily, so difficult to tell if he's actually full...

Thanks in advance!

It's normal to bring up milk with a burp. This would not normally be a sign to stop feeding, unless the baby clearly indicates he doesn't want any more.

Some babies don't take themselves off, and the mum just has to judge by other behaviour - slowing down, not resisting when she makes a move to take him off, falling asleep.

Please don't worry about encouraging him to overeat. If he does not want/need more to eat, he will regulate himself. You can't tell what volume of milk he is taking in, anyway - you just leave it to him :)

Thanks Tiktok. So when he brings a bit of milk up, that's effectively a burp even if I don't hear an actual burp come up?

Hard to say every time, but the valve at the top of the stomach is immature in babies and super sensitive. A bit of air coming up might well push some milk up, too :)
