Is this normal?

I'm coming up to 40 weeks pregnant and this is dc number 3. I've never managed to breastfeed for as long as I'd like to previously and want to get it right this time around.

Ever since I found out I was pregnant my nipples have been shocking. Dry, cracked skin. Bleeding. Bouts of thrush. Especially on the left side. I've been to the gp a few times and been fobbed off with cream etc.

I've started getting milk the past couple of weeks and been getting substantially more out of the right side. I've felt pain in the left occasionally and tried expressing a little to see if it would relieve any pressure type feelings. Getting the normal clear/cloudy coloured milk apart from one duct which is really quite green/yellow. Again I'm not getting much but whenever I do this it's always green/yellow from the same spot and I'm worrying something is wrong. My gp is no help and the midwife says to go to the gp so I'm a bit stuck!

I'm paranoid that baby won't feed from this side and that there's something wrong. Ideally I'd like to sort it before baby comes. I know you should never Google but after a few searches it says milk can be yellow/green and its fine. Am I worrying for nothing? I'd appreciate any advice.

Any groups or baby cafés you could go to. I wished I'd done that when I was pregnant.

I'd feel a bit weird going without a baby Grin I'll have a look around and see. I think I might just have to show my midwife and get her to speak to the gp. I need a decent gp!

Can you see another GP? Or a midwife? I haven't heard of what you're describing. But that shouldn't panic you; I'm no expert.

Oops sausage fingers!

I think I need a specialist. The couple of gp's that I've seen haven't had a clue about feeding. I'll see if my midwife can set me up with something.

Definitely pop down to your local breastfeeding cafe/support group. They won't find it at all weird that you're still pregnant, wapecially as its going to be your 3rd go at breastfeeding and you want it to go well. They will be bloody delighted to see you I expect.

More to the point, you will probably want their help at some point once the baby arrives, so by popping in early you'll have worked out how to get there before you have to do it with a newborn in tow. And there's usually free cake.

Oooh free cake, I'm there. I'll have a look and find my nearest one. Thanks!
