Tips for moving from boobie to bottle

Has anyone done this who can offer any tips at all?

Son is 18wks, and planning to start phasing in bottle gradually. Trying one bottle a day at the moment, with an aim to him being bottle fed by Xmas.

Any feeding/bottle brand/general tips gratefully received!

boobie?!!
Sounds like you're doing the right thing phasing it in gently. Basically chose a feed to use the bottle for and try not to give breast milk then and gradually build up the number of 'bottle' feeds. Lots of people keep the night feeds as breast for convenience and comfort for the baby. You could try a bottle for the last feed to fill up his tummy if he isn't sleeping through. Hope someone has more helpful tips than me, that's all I can remember

I chose to give dd her bottle feed after her bath.
I used Avent Bottle, mainly because I was given lots.
dd didn't like it at first, but i persevered. Didn't take her long to catch on, week or so.
Hope this helps

Morning. I am in the process of doing this right now. I was giving 6 breast feeds a day. Some books (we are not allowed to mention...) say substitute one feed a week so that your baby and your breasts are gently introduced to total bottle feeding.

I BF for 6 months and i decided that one feed a week was way too long for me (another 6 weeks!) so after advice from here (have a look for my thread on Tuesday just gone), I have decided to substitute one feed every 3 days and see how it goes. So, I have started with the 10.30/11am feed first, mainly because I am now weaning so she is getting food mainly at this feed.

I now have to decide which one to drop next. Probably the 4pm feed (I feed 7am, 10.30, 1.30, 4, 6.40, 10.30pm approx), the object is to get her down to just breakfast, lunch and dinner feeds, then change those over one by one.

The problem is if you do it too quickly, some people can end up with painful breasts and even mastisis (not every one has this problem apparently). But you seem to have plenty of time so you could do one a week.

My DD is happy with Avent bottles and uses size 2 teats. I am using Aptamil and sometimes Hipp Organic (but I find the latter is a bit powdery and doesn't dissolve brilliantly).

Good luck
