I think I'm ready to stop

DS is 15mo. I've been toying with the idea for a while, but didn't feel ready until now. I got pg when he was 12mo and was hoping he would self wean during pregnancy but it sadly wasn't a sticky one. So now I think I don't want to wait anymore and just do it.

He's never been a milk baby and will not be bothered by it at the slightest. He is down to one feed a day for nearly two weeks now. He goes to nursery one day a week and I don't feed him that morning. He's fine with that.

Do I just go cold turkey? My boobs never ever feel full anymore. Will I still get engorged? How long will it take for my milk to dry up and boobs to settle?

I won't do it just now, as we're away at my mum's at the moment, but coming back this weekend. I will give another week for him to readjust to his old routine, so he'll be nearly 16m. I know it's recommended to bf till 2, and I'm a bit sad I'm not going to do it, but I think I've done pretty good job nonetheless.

Any tips/experiences greatly appreciated Smile

I made sure I offered breakfast and was up an about so no milk was on offer - and it was fine. If asked I would feed, so I did a few feeds here and there over the course of a couple of weeks, but did not notice milk in boobs and they seemed settled really fast. I was almost wound down naturally by that point anyway so it was quite easy.

You've done a great job, not just a pretty good one!

I stopped cold-turkey, from one feed a day, at 15 months and it was easy. I don't think she was taking much, really, so no engorgement or issues at all. She asked on days one and two and I told her she could have a cup instead, and then by day three she had stopped asking. I felt bad for stopping before she self-weaned, but I wanted to have my body back for myself and it really didn't cause distress, so I ended up happy with my decision.

My DS1 stopped when he was down to one feed a day and there was no engorgement at all. Physically it was totally easy and painless. Ending BF-ing is so bittersweet but when one of you knows it's the end, it's the right time to stop. Sure it will be far easier than you think Flowers

Not sure if I'm ready now... DS is going through early wake up spell, so that morning feed buys me a bit of extra lie in... Maybe once he starts waking up a bit later... yawn...

On the other hand he has refused his morning feed a couple of times a few days ago. So maybe he's in a process of self-weaning?

Has anyone found that in those late stages of bfing your boobs became quite deflated and smaller too? I really couldn't care less but my OH is devastated Grin

Sorry, I meant to ask if your boobs became a bit fuller again once you stopped?

Yes they did. I'm afraid they're not their previous perky selves, but they are a LOT better than they were at the tail end of feeding.
