Hi, I'm seeking advice for my sister.

Her DD3 is a week old today, she's formula fed but she's losing weight and my sister has been asked to take her back to the post natal ward.

She's waking every 3 hrs for a bottle but after an oz of milk she falls asleep and won't take anymore.
Nappies seem normal, she's still having wet/dirty ones.

She was 6lb 13 when born, I'm not sure how much she's lost but it's too much according to the midwife.

Does anyone have any tips or know how the drs are likely to tackle the problem please?

All the other kids have been good eaters, hungry babies from day one so she's a bit worried.

Thanks Smile

Well I'm sure she'll get some good support and help in hospital. But I would say that every three hours for a new born its quit a long time between feeds. If she's losing weight then I think waking and feeding more often could help. For a breastfed baby we would say at lest every 2 hours and I don't see why you couldn't apply the same especially as she is only taking a small amount. Some babies do need waking to feed to start with.

I'm sure the hospital may also check for any medical reasons which is also good to rule out.
