Projectile vomiting after feeds

One of my 2 week old twins is a real feeder. Currently my BM supply is not enough to exclusively BF both twins, so they are having 1/3 of each feed topped up with formula. When we burp my son, he tends not to bring any wind up at all. Then a little while later we get projectile vomits that even come through his nose :(

My OH is panicking that he is unwell, or not tolerating the formula. I am feeling more layed back about it, babies do throw up when they gave wind (and I've seen similar vomits on you've been framed! - these are our first children and my points of reference are few and far between!!!). However, a few of my motherly instincts have been wrong or lacking over the last two weeks and I have begun to loose faith in my own Instincts and I can't help feed into my OH concerns a little.

Is is normal for some babies to do massive vomits after every feed?

I had the same with my DS when he was 2 weeks old. It turned out to be twisted bowel and he had emergency surgery. I'm not saying your case is the same but I wouldn't ignore projectile vomiting. He might get dehydrated very quickly. Is it after every feed?

Hi there, we are having similar with our twins - more with one than the other, and we are puzzled and worried too. I tried dairy exclusion for a few months and that didn't seem to make any difference. Neither does breast milk vs formula.
We have had them on Domperidone for a while, when they also had reflux, which seemed to help. We're thinking of putting the more vomit-prone baby back on it.
We're going to go back to the doctor's this week to double check it isn't something more serious (there is also the possibility of pyloric stenosis, but I am not sure that would be affecting your child at such a young age).
I'm sure you're doing well. Instincts are great to have - they'll get better as you all get to know each other better :)

My brother had this and it was pyloric stenosis. It is more common in boys than girls

Ds1 was a great barfer. He fed frequently and long, and barfed the same way. Visiting my friend, he barfed so spectacularly that she had to repaint her bedroom.

As long as he is putting on weight okay, and isn't in pain, I wouldn't worry too much. Some babies are just gifted in the quantity and force of their regurgitation...

Dd1 was also a frequent vom. She didn't equal the quantity or force, but was much sickier than the rest of her peers.

Dd2 barely barfed at all.

Stenosis manifests at about 6 weeks, typically. However I would suggest a trip to the gp just to get it checked out.
