And I'm starting to feel uncomfortable now, very tender to touch and sore. I had cut down very slowly and we were down to just 1 feed a day. What do I do now? How do I ease the discomfort or is it a case of putting up with it for a while?

Maybe you could express and slowly cut down the amount you take off?

If there are any red patches keep a close eye, especially if you get feverish. You may need to see your GP in that instance.

Savoy cabbage leaves (chilled), ice packs, and ibuprofen. I found a sports bra was the most comfortable thing to wear.

I was down to one feed a day and still had to endure ten days of engorgement both times (sorry).

You can hand-express a small amount in the shower to ease the pressure.

Oh, and keep an eye on lumps - see the GP if they persist as you can get blocked milk ducts. I had to have one drained (it was painless).

Elmersnewfriend · 14/02/2015 19:20

Eugh, it's horrible, but if you were down too one feed then it really will get better quickly.

bayrans · 14/02/2015 19:20

Hand express enough to feel comfortable again for a couple of days. Ibuprofen and a deep breath or two....

It took two weeks for my discomfort to subside. It will feel better.

Pancakeflipper · 14/02/2015 19:23

I used to express in the shower. I was up to 4 showers a day for a few days. It does go but it's painful

brilliantsunshine · 14/02/2015 19:25

Oh no Sad I thought if I cut down really slowly I'd only have a few days of pain! Well at least I'm prepared! I'll get some cabbage leaves in hopefully I can get some tomorrow.

I have never hand expressed Blush I don't really like the idea of doing it! I do have a manual pump but thought I'd better not use it in case my body thinks I'm still feeding.

My dd doesn't seem to have even noticed we've stopped!!

Oh no. I've just had a horrible thought. I have a job interview on Thursday - am I going to have gigantic leaky boobs and be in too much pain to concentrate! I really didn't think this through Sad

Just squeeze a little, honestly it will feel better. Mine didn't actually leak at all (well only one side as the other gave up a couple of months before I stopped for good - at least you'll look even!)

brilliantsunshine · 14/02/2015 19:43

Good to know! I may wear some best pads to the interview just in case...

Ok just squeeze! I'll give it a go in the shower if I get desperate (maybe!)

I found mine just used to shoot milk out across the shower - I think they sensed freedom...

brilliantsunshine · 14/02/2015 23:44

That would be nice if I didn't have to do anything !

They feel extremely sore to touch now and tingly and bigger. ..my nipple area feels a bit lumpy but not sure if it's just normal lumpiness! No redness.

Humph. I hope I can sleep!

The worse thing I'm finding today is I can't cuddle dd as so tender and sore Sad

How are you today? I've got 2 final feeds to drop and am dreading it - DC2 is 17 weeks. Next one to go is the bedtime feed.

brilliantsunshine · 16/02/2015 08:39

Well I'm no worse today which I'm glad about! still very painful to touch . Had a bad nights sleep dd was up 8 times Shock and trying to cuddle her was quite painful. Think she is teething. I'm going to get some peppermint tea today definitely!

Good luck with the weaning Smile

Ouch.

Thanks - dreading it for similar reason and have been procrastinating about it for weeks now!

brilliantsunshine · 16/02/2015 10:20

I'm sure it will ease in the next few days. ..I hope anyway. It's fine just doing normal day to day stuff it's just hard picking my dd up as she tends to throw herself forward for a hug and that hurts !
