Feel a total emotional wreck cos of it! DD3 is now 10 months old and has been fully breast fed, she will not take a bottle or formula for love nor money, I have tried lots of times & have a cupboard full of various teats etc!
I am now back at work for one day a week & during this day she will not take any milk from any-one & then I have a really bad night with her as she wants to feed from me for ages. It's a no win situation as I love feeding her myself but really do need some independance back & hopefully a decent nights sleep!

Am I being selfish or do I need to make the switch and start to get her on a bottle???

After 10 months you've done your bit and can reduce it with honour, I would say.

Is it just this one day that is causing the problem, or do you want to cut down generally? I would think it would be a shame to switch your usual method of feeding her if it is going well otherwise, when it is just one day per week that is problematic. I think we could come up with some ideas to get round it if you basically want to carry on - first of all, is there any way someone could bring her in to you at work so you could feed her at lunchtime?

FrannyandZooey · 20/10/2006 20:35

Oh, another idea: I have seen babies this age drink from a straw, which I never would have thought of myself

chocolateshoes · 20/10/2006 20:38

I think I'd go straight to milk from a beaker with a spout if you can.

I went back to work when my DD2 was 10 months. She never took any milk from cup, bottle or otherwise.

On the days I worked I fed her morning and night and she just had water or juice from a cup. She was taking a bit of solids too. At that age I think they can cope with less milk in the diet and they do make up for it when it's available.

Worked for us anyway.

Actually Gillian we were the same & DS didn't seem to mind. He just had a beaker of water during the day while I was at work, & then I continued breakfast & bedtime b/feeds.

goshme, i think at 10 months she really should be fine with a couple of feeds a day - otherwise i have been starving ds! perhaps she is just wanting to feed a lot becuase you have been away all day. how long have you been back at work?
