So my lo is due 28th of February. I plan to breastfeed till as much as possible, but I am also looking at what bottles to buy to store expressed milk and feed him (or have DH feed him at times ).
I am currently looking at
www.amazon.co.uk/Tommee-Tippee-Closer-Newborn-Starter/dp/B00CU9515I/ref=br_it_dp_o_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=THYSBOA2HSOV&coliid=I2UPLJQNT2AK6

and

www.amazon.co.uk/Philips-Avent-Natural-Infant-Starter/dp/B00E1CI2TO/ref=br_it_dp_o_S_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=THYSBOA2HSOV&coliid=I2886D0E8QBVK0

Can any mums who already went trough this give any advice? Which was the best for you and your LO ? Any particular things I should keep in mind?

£15 vs £50 is there really any question?
I breastfed for 3 months and have used tommee tippee after. Friends use a mixture of mam/avent/dr browns different babies like different things but I think tommee tippee is most common when out and about!

tesco has the avent one for nearly half the price:

dementedpixie · 28/01/2015 08:24

although I think there is 1 less smaller bottle in it

Heatherbell1978 · 28/01/2015 08:32

I would buy the cheaper one but be prepared for having to try lots of differvent bottles.....DS1 was bf for 4 months and in that time Dr Browns was the only bottle he would take and I spent a fortune buying them all. He's 5 months and we've just switched to Tommee Tippee as the teat is faster flowing and he was getting bored with the other one. You're almost better off buying one each of the different brands on Amazon.

I used Avent with ds1 (mix fed). My dsis used TT with both her predominantly bf kids as did several of my friends.

Ds2 is ebf but I trying to introduce a bottle and have had most success with a Mam bottle. They are self sterilising which is a plus point when you are giving infrequent bottles.

Given that the TT pack is cheaper and also contains the next size up teats, I would go with that but be prepared that it may not suit your baby.

Madamecastafiore · 28/01/2015 09:08

I'd buy one bottle as your baby may not take to what you buy and you'll end up throwing them away. We bought all the expensive ones and DD2 ended up with a make called Nuk after trying about 6 different makes and not using the avent starter pack we bought

Use bags to store milk.

FishWithABicycle · 28/01/2015 09:15

I don't think there's any such thing as the best option. Some babies are cooperative and accept the first bottle they are given. Some babies take a while to get the hang of it and their parents will try half a dozen different bottles and in despair will adopt every trick and technique and position they find, and eventually one day the baby accepts the bottle and the parents swear by that bottle/technique combination as "the only thing that ever worked" when in fact it was all quite random and might well have happened just the same if they had stuck to one bottle all along.

I breastfed mostly and DS1 had a bottle of ebm late night to let me sleep. He was ok on the wide necked ones ?TT maybe for a few weeks then hated it, we went through 3 or 4 different bottles and he eventually agreed on the Mam with latex teats, refused all silicone ones.

DS2 flatly refused a bottle at all, ever.

I guess if you are planning to breastfeed mostly then my advice would be to buy 1 or 2 individual bottles only and see how you go. If you decide to bottle feed more then the shops are always open but you haven't spent a small fortune on stuff your baby may hate.

lottiesatitagain · 28/01/2015 09:26

Tommy tippee was far too fast flowing for my baby. Gave her terrible wind. I bought a big set as they were on special and ended up binning them. Think they are always on special for a reason. I found Dr. Browns and Nuk good. Rather then buying a set you would be better off buying a couple of bottles and seeing how your baby takes to them.

tryingtocatchthewind · 28/01/2015 09:27

Sign up to boots parenting club and you get a free small Mam bottle. Agree with previous poster the self sterilising is brilliant when you only have a few bits. Ask any friends if they have some to try. All babies are different, however my two took to mam straight away so never tried any others

JuniperTisane · 28/01/2015 09:28

Nuk, thats it, not Mam. (we tried them all as fish says above). Basically, babies are fickle little buggers.

squizita · 28/01/2015 14:46

I would only ever buy ONE of each brand as PP said.

Mine only likes lansinoh (from mothercare).

Mind you some people are lucky and their baby turns out to insist on 99p boots own brand bottles!
