Domperidone and reflux - risks and MHRA warning

Hello
My 5 month old daughter has been prescribed domperidone for reflux by the GP. However i came across a press release from the MHRA saying it should not be prescribed for gastro problems any longer www.mhra.gov.uk/NewsCentre/Pressreleases/CON409258.

Does anyone here know about this, or know of an alternative safer medicine?
I'm waiting to hear from the GP now.

Our paediatrician told us last week they are no longer prescribing it so not to restart DS on it. He's primary aged but has reflux and took for about a year aged 4-5.

My twins were on it but i also heard it had been discontinued in use for children.

I think you will have to go down the antacid route - ranitidine, imperative etc. tbh we were never sure the domperidone helped them anyway and took them off it long before the ranitidine.

Stargirl, thanks, that link was maninly about breastfeeding women taking it.

Thanks bank and ireally. I tried her on the rantidine but didnt really help. Now on the omprezalone, and not really halping either. Well at least she is still getting sick. The domperidone in one day did stop her getting sick, so would like something similar, but without the awful risks!

GP rang and said he was going to chat to another GP about it and perhaps contact the paeds and get back.

Will have a look at imperative, havent heard of it.

Yes, I know but it does explain the rationale behind the withdrawal.
