General anaesthetic and breastfeeding

Advice? We will try DD with bottles beforehand, and the consultant said they would make sure I was booked in first thing so out quickly. Kelly mom says can bf once you can hold your baby, and people bf after an emcs if they are knocked out, so I presume I should be fine to bf after? Any advice/experiences welcome. DD will be 3 months old.

Fine.

I had a general for EMCS. Was breastfeeding as soon as I hold baby safely.

I bfed after major surgery. Was too uncomfortable to do so for about 48 hrs so she had bottles then and I had help to pump. Went back to exclusive bfing fine once i was well enough.

Brilliant, thanks! I will stop worrying then!

I rang breastfeeding network. Its fine. No need to pump and dump. As soon as you are lucid enough you can feed baby

Yes, fine. General anaesthetic has a very short half life (i.e how quickly it gets out of your system) these days - that's why they can kick you out of hospital shortly after major surgery.

I had knee surgery last year and was feeding DD (who was 9 months at time) within a few hours of coming round. She had expressed milk while I was at the hospital. I didn't pump and dump.

I had GA to be stitched up post birth and then BFed DD afterwards
