Ten week old pukes quite a lot

My ten week old DS pukes a bit after most feeds. It's more than possetting but not enough that I think I should take him to the doctors. It's worse some days than others - like today he has puked a bit with every burp after his feeds. Anyone else have this and is there anything I can do? I don't know whether to lie him down after a feed or get him upright?

Sounds like he has a weak muscle at the top of the oesophagus which is letting the milk back up. It does stengthen with time so do nothing unless
1 - the being sick seems to cause pain (this would be reflux - acid coming back up) in which case they'd prescribe gaviscon or/ and antacid
2 - he is losing weight because of the amount he's throwing up.

other than that, just go with it as the medication can cause other problems like constipation. enjoy all the washing !!

Thanks - he's definitely not losing weight but he has seemed in pain over the last few days - will see how he gets on before going down the medication route. Not quite sure whether to wind him and get it out quickly or be more gentle and let him puke in his own time!

Yes the washing is piling up as are stains on the carpet..

My ds (also 10 wks) has reflux and as well as being on infant gaviscon we have been advised to keep him as upright as possible during feeds and for at least 30 mins after. Also we burp him frequently but not too vigorously - in positions that don't put any pressure on his tummy (so no sitting him up - I tend to hold him upright against me with his head just resting on my shoulder).

is he bf or ff?

if formula - which one are you using?

All 3 of my dds did this to some extent - dd3 was the worst. I don't think there's anything you can do tbh. I normally fed her so she was in a more upright position, and then sat her in a babychair for at least half an hour or so after each feed. She's grown out of it though - she's now 8 months and hardly "parts" with a drop these days!

He's BF but I have started giving formula at night - SMA Gold. He seems OK with it and it's not noticeably worse with the formula

Also prop the head end of the cot up at night time which helps to keep him in an upright position. My ds is now 14 weeks and has been like this since about week 4. We used the gaviscon and other medication but all caused more probs than before. Last weeks we were advised to stop the whole lot and give him a thicker formula called omneo comfort which sits better in tummy. Paediatrician also advised us to wean sooner rather than later.

If he seems to be in pain when sick it def sounds like reflux. You need to judge how bad it is because if you can face avoiding medicine and putting up with it that's better but obviously depends on extent of pain

Thanks guys. Kept him upright last night and this morning and although he's still puking he's in less pain.

i ask about the formula because Jessica was on SMA GOLD and she was the sickiest baby ever. It wasnt until we switched her to progress milk at 9 months old that we realised it was the milk causing the sick - she stopped literally overnight!

My 2 both were very pukey babies and it didn't really improve until 6 months + . They permanently had bibs on but were never in pain with it (both bf as well)
