Breast refusal - 11 week old

My DD has been having episodes recently where she just refuses the breast if she is tired and hungry. I line her up for a feed and she just will not latch on but just screams and screams and screams inconsolably. It's incredibly distressing.

I don't know what's causing this. Initially I thought it was overtiredness because it usually happened when she had stayed awake between feeds and was desperate for a nap. This morning it happened just after she had woken up though so she wasn't tired.

This only ever happened with my son, (who was bottle-fed) if he was teething and even then he would just refuse the bottle he wouldn't scream. She was bawling for about 20 minutes this morning! Could she be teething at not even 3 months old? Usually tickling her cheek works eventually to trigger her to suck and get the milk to let down but this morning nothing worked. She just wouldn't latch on and eventually my DH persuaded me to give her some formula from a bottle from the emergency stash we had as I was getting really upset. She had been EBF up to now but this morning she just wouldn't feed no matter what I did but she took the bottle no problem, about 10mls, and then finally fed on me.

Any idea what's going on?

Bump.

Anyone had this happen with their baby?

Yes at 3 months! Was told before teething the teeth can be moving in the gums (I suppose like wisdom tooth pain) by the nurse at the GP and it's common.
What I found also was if she was tired/overcome it was worse, so a nap on me for 30-40 min (or any map but on me was easier when she was howling mid feed) "reset" her and she'd wake and feed happily.

I also let her chew my finger then fed her which also worked.
Once I gave her calpol as she seemed very sore - she slept 30 min then fed fine. This pretty much confirmed sore gums in my case.

My DD is just 3 months and she keeps having episodes like this. So frustrating.

DS got first tooth at 3 months (!) Though didn't get any more til 8 months. DD has a white bit on her gum and I'm slightly concerned it too will be an early tooth. Not cool for bf.

My best attempts at feeding at the moment are lying down. Obvs not usually practical when I am chasing a toddler sound :/ Good luck. I hope this improves soon for you.

Interesting, squizita, my first thought was teething too because the other day she was extremely fussy and had red flushed cheeks and was chewing her hand constantly even right after a long feed. So maybe some pain relief would work. Problem is she loses it so quickly it's like she gets into a frenzy and so I need something that will work quickly.

I have a toddler too bexster and it makes everything much trickier! A lot of the time when it's happened it's because i've had to delay her feeding for 10 minutes because I need to help DS go to the potty or whatever. She just flips out at the smallest delay!
