Hiya...
Just curious really, anyone exclusively breast fed twins, or triplets? (or more!) Just planning ahead, wondering how id cope if I was having twins or triplets. Would you produce enough milk?

Thanks! x

Bf my twins and am still feeding them at 23 months, so yep, its possible

Any tips? Friend of mine pregnant with twins and already nervous about the prospect...

Twins is perfectly possible, as the supply and demand of bf comes into play. I think the sleep deprivation and sheer logistics of latching on 2 would be the challenge, rather than supply.

As for triplets, I think exclusive feeding would be harder. When my midwife stepmum cared for a woman who had triplets she breastfed 1 & 2 at a time and the 3rd had a bottle, the next feed she'd feed 2 & 3 while 1 had a bottle, then 3& 1 while 2 had a bottle. Short of spending your entire life sitting feeding, I don't know how you'd exclusively bf triplets. When would you cahnge their nappies, etc?!

Any tips, well I think because it is that little bit harder you have to be quite determined. Lots of people will tell you that you can't.
The way i did it, was I fed them seperately at first as i find joint feeding really difficult, not every one does. People who do joint feeding invest in feeding pillows etc.
I fed mine seperately to get the milk established and now that they are older they feed together. If you feed seperately you have to be prepared to make one wait. I remember crying as I fed one while the other one cried to be fed. Really stresfull
My sister in law knows someone who bf triplets exclusively by rotating them. It can be done I guess

Yep! Did it! Produced more than enough.

Are you planning on some multis then? Just a word.......... step away from the idea. Move along now.... lol

(I have twins btw)

I breastfed my twins too and expressed a freezer full whilst doing it!!

Just want to be prepared! Always wondered if it was possible to produce all that milk!

yes it is possible. I tried feeding mine on the breast found it hard going then expressed and fed them til they were 6 mnths (same age I weaned my singles). i had leftovers too. Agree with mars tho re multiples - Don't Do It!

My twins are now 11 breastfed them simultaneously using one of those V shaped pillows you can get from Argos. If one was hungry I would always wake the other so they fed together otherwise you just become a milking machine!!
I would set up food, lots of drinks, book, remote for telly and phone and settle down to feed. It was amazing you get the feel good endorpin rush X2 and the milk flow was great. But as FMW said be careful for what you wish for it was the hardest thing in the world at times and that ws with a wonderful dh and fantastic mum and mil.

I'm breastfeeding twins aged 5 months and was feeding their elder brother still when they were born...the second time I have fed x3 at a time as DSsx3 were all born within 2 years of each other. Your body adjusts and providing you eat well almost everyone can do it...just have confidence !
