Hi!Just read that on the tin of my dd formula. I have a kettle with a Britta filter. Should I use a normal kettle? Water in London is so hard...

Does that mean don't use filtered water as an alternative to boiled water (in case anyone thinks filtered is 'purer' or something)?

Macdog · 09/10/2006 21:29

i think it means that you can't use unboiled filtered water.
filtered, boiled water should be ok, i think

nuria · 09/10/2006 22:18

I see...yes, it must be that. Thanks!

I don't remeber well but I believe it was about the minerals in the filter.

nuria · 09/10/2006 23:02

So I should take the filter out of the kettle, then...

I was under the same impression as Chandra but don't remember where I read it or what the reasons were. Maybe take the filter out just to be on the safe side?

Xena · 09/10/2006 23:25

I thought they couldn't have the minerals in bottled water, I didn't realise there were minerals in the filters????

hairymclary · 09/10/2006 23:26

yes, that's what filters the water

nuria · 10/10/2006 10:23

I think taking out the filter would be the safest options. Been trying all morning to call Britta Help Line but nobody is answering. WIl try again and post what they say. Thanks!

My HV said not to use filtered water for dd2 bottles because of the charcoal used in the filters. So we bought a cheap kettle for her water.

nuria · 10/10/2006 21:05

Thanks mik, will do the same.

God, I'm starting to worry...it's three months I've been using this kettle. Hope I haven't caused any harm to my dd

I'm not sure but why don't you ring the helpline on the formula and ask the?

nuria · 10/10/2006 21:57

dyzzidi, that's a good idea, will phone them tomorrow!

HI! I just phoned SMA and they told me not to use the filter. They say that when the cartrige is about to finish it can release toxins into the water. Then I phoned Brita and this is what they told me;"some filters release salts in the water to fight limescale. Brita filters don't release anything, they just absorb heavy metals and impurities. Therefore they are perfectly safe to use with baby formula".
I don't know you, but I'm as confused as before!
