A friend of mine's dd is definately allergic to dairy, possibly soy (further allergy test in a couple of weeks to clarify)..If she was allergic to soy as well is there any kind of formula she could have? My friend is desperate to give up breastfeeding as it has been one long battle of poor supply, or mastitis, or ravaged nipples. Her daughter is 7 months and having lots of solids....

My DS was on Nestle Nan which is a hypoallergenic formula. A friends DD was on something else - will try to find out what. This was in Bulgaria though although I know Nestle Nan is available in UK - I think pharmacies can order it.

There are several hypoallergenic formulas in the UK. She would need to speak to her GP and get a prescription for one. DD tried to Nutramigen, and Neocate (there are a few others). Neocate is for children with severe allergies. She could buy either formula from a pharmacy but they will need to order them in for her and they are very expensive. BTW I have a few cans left over of both milks that I would like to pass on. If she interested, I have can give her one and she need only pay the postage (until she gets the prescription).

Also, you can get Nanny (goat milk formula) but some children to cow's milk are also allergic to goat's milk. So it is best to go with what the doctors advise.

Good luck.

Nanny is no longer allowed to be on sale in the UK - see other threads for the link to this.

Thanks for the offer cads, we're in Australia so they wouldn't let it through customs ( really weirdly strict about baby formulae for some reason). Think I'll advise her to ask her GP...poor bugger.

Sorry, OzJo. Didn't realise where you are though your nickname is a give away. Hope her GP can help her.
