Breastfed baby always sick?

Hi DS2 is 5 weeks old and recently has started being sick after every feed. He feeds 2 hourly. It started off as a few feeds and now he is sick several times just after one feed. He's also started gagging as if something is in his throat but this is in between feeds.

Any ideas on what could be causing this?

Sounds like reflux.

My biggest piece if advice it to keep baby upright after a feed & to raise one end of Moses basket / crib too

Also try winding him more frequently in case it's trapped air pushing the milk out

I've spoken to my HV as DS had reflux up until 1 year but she said as long as DS2 is putting on weight and not in pain I shouldn't think too much of it

Dd1 was like this, just a Sicky baby, no reflux. She put on weight fine, not in pain. Just meant I had loads of washing.

Mine went through a phase of this! It was wind. Resolved itself with stringent burping and infacol thankfully.
I was worried as There is a condition which runs on DHS family which causes this - a stenosis of the stomach, needs a procedure to correct it. It's a problem with the stomach valve - rare and easy to check for (GP can do it by palpation the belly) and easily fixed nowadays.

It might not be anything to worry about too much. My 3 month old used to projectile vomit every day when he was tiny and there was constant milk spills. He was also pretty windy and used to groan and strain all night in his sleep. But he always put on weight and did plenty nappies so HV was never too bothered. He grew out of it and now still dribbles a bit but no more colicky symptoms and sleeps quietly!

I've a 3 week old like this and had been starting to worry so a bit reassured by this thread. Dd1 was very pukey but otherwise fine for the first 6 months of her life but I guess I'd forgotten the sheer volumes involved!
