Where has my milk GONE?! :(

Ok, from the outset, I suppose I should admit DD is 2.2 and so maybe this is just the natural end for us (dying for this NOT to be the answer though as neither of us are ready!!!)

I don't know what else to say other then, after two plus years of there always being milk, suddenly this last two days there is NONE! DD keeps asking anyway, so we're definitely trying the up demand = up supply theory, but nothing. Nothing! :(

We've just made a big move across the country, I'm starting a new job next week leaving DD for the first time... With all this uprooting this is NOT the time to suddenly take away feeding as it's by far her biggest comforter.

My thoughts on what could be the problem:

I'vd had only about four periods since DD was born. 3 months running, then nothing for a couple of months (which I pit down to PCOS - I was v-irregular pre-DD), and now this week (starting yesterday, one day into dissppearance of milk). Could this be linked in anyway do you think?

  • stress? House move, finding childcare, starting new job etc been v v stressful.
  • vitamins. I religiously took Pregnacare til about 6 months ago, til just accidentally stopped and never got back into it again. Could this just be a bodily protest?!

Please, please give any ideas for solutions you can. Feeding is so important to us at this time, I've already taken away everything else that DD knows and loves with the move. :(

This might be a silly question, but how do you know it has gone?

Mummyteachmummy · 29/10/2014 23:14

PS As if I needed further proof there's nothing coming out, DD's wee was notably yellow tonight. I've been trying to get her to take water instead but she's not too interested and definitely won't be persuaded overnight. I'm going to have a v dehydrated DD come morning aren't I?! :/

X-post pook! It just feels awful and completely different - she's sucking harder and harder and when I listen there's no swallowing, and then she just sort of lets go and my entirely dry nipple drops lifelessly out of her entirely dry mouth. Also no letdown. I normally feel lots if letdowns.

If she's still nursing, it will more than likely come back, I'd say. You can offer her water, which she will probably take if she's thirsty tomorrow.
Have a relaxing bath or a shower before bed, and perhaps DD will get it back for you.

pookamoo · 29/10/2014 23:19

X-post again!

I'm not sure what to suggest, hopefully an expert will come along.
Be kind to yourself, though, you have done an amazing thing so far with your DD, and it may not quite be over.

Thank you pookamoo. :)

It would be incredibly rare for your milk to just dry up esp after this length of nursing!

Maybe stress and worry affecting your letdown?

What about having a bath together and her feeding in the bath?

Let her nurse as much ad she wants. Your diet shouldn't impact on supply but there are various things recommended such as oats? A vitamin won't hurt I took them whilst bfeeding more to ward of anaemia.

Maybe tiktok will be along with some thoughts, have you looked on kellymom? Or Fb pages like analytical armadillo or the leaky boob. They can be good sources of info.

pookamoo · 29/10/2014 23:27

Oh yes, I had thought about the bath together, 5madthings. Could be worth a try, OP?

Do you co-sleep?

PenguinsIsSleepDeprived · 30/10/2014 08:14

Um. If you have had no periods and your milk has gone, is there a possibility you should do a pregnancy test?

PenguinsIsSleepDeprived · 30/10/2014 08:15

Sorry-pressed send too soon. I meant was there any chance it was a small bleed during pregnancy and not a period. Smile

OodneedsanOod · 30/10/2014 08:16

Are you pregnant?

Mummyteachmummy · 30/10/2014 12:54

Yes, we cosleep, and I had a letdown in the night which was v exciting after two days of nothing! Still feeling pretty empty again today, but last night has given a bit of hope...

Will defo try bat together, and look to those fb groups, thank you!

Pregnancy theorists. I don't know, v unlikely. Period seems like a pretty normal period iyswim? Ahhh, don't set me off - every since having DD every twinge, funny feeling, anything gets serious 'I must be pregnant!' thoughts from me as it is! DH had enough of trips to Boots 'because you never know'! Grin

... In fact, I think I may have actually tested the first month period didn't arrive!
