Worried about Wind?

Mmolly2013 · 29/10/2014 12:58

My baby is 9 weeks old. She is fed aptimil milk, I use the readu made as to be honest Im afraid to use the powder as im clueless and its more convient to use the ready made as I dont want her to get sick if i make the powder wrong

She farts a lot, really loud aggressive farts that seen to hurt and always gets trapped wind.

Im worried she might have a lactose intolerance, but the milks I would need to try dont come ready made. Anyone any help or experience with the intolerance issue.

Hi Op I'm watching to see what answers you get. I have the same problem with my 5 week old dd and we're using Aptamil but the powder.

It got slightly better using dr Brown's bottles but I think it's a colic issue rather than an intolerance one for us so I'm going to try Infacol today.

Our pediatrician seems to think its more likely to be colic than intolerance.

I have the dr browns bottles also. I am also using dentinox in her bottle or infacol. It got better for a while but now shes drinking more so its beginning to get a bigger issue. Shes fine most of the time bt you can hear the wind gurgling inside her and the farts literally wake me up they are so loud

I'm in the same boat ladies. I've been using the ready made but have just bought the powder. MW says wind & farthing is normal with FF babies :(

squizita · 29/10/2014 18:58

Mine is bf and does this!

MW said normal. Suggested infacol or gripe water. Infacol takes couple of days to kick in but mates claim it's gold!!!

PuppyMummy · 29/10/2014 20:34

mine is also BF and had terrible wind and colic. He still does really impressive farts now at 5 months!

We used infacol and it really helped. im just starting to reduce using it now as he seems a lot better at getting the wind up.
I also found baby massage moves to help reduce colic helped him.

squizita · 29/10/2014 21:20

How long does infacol take to have a real effect. HeArd it's not immediate. Just done 1st dose- she's still struggling but it seems a bit better. Will it improve over time?

Mmolly2013 · 29/10/2014 21:49

it takes A few days to coat the stomach properly so you'll see better results then

Thanks. Mind you even now she has slept better than before. Such a relief to hear a burp then realise at 2.30 am she's had a comfortable sleep till her feed time!

It might be worth trying Colief -it lowers the lactose content on the milk. It did wonders for my DS. It's expensive but if you get one bottle (which should last about a week) and it works then you can get it on prescription.

Also give a small amount of fennel tea a try, it's brilliant for digestion and really helps babies (and adults!) to pass wind more easily Smile

mrsnec · 30/10/2014 05:08

My dd has had fennel tea since birth as they use it in the hospitals here to help calm babies. I use the milupa baby tea. I'm not sure it helps the wind but it definitely has a calming effect and makes her burps smell lovely!

Day 2 of Infacol here. Less crying but still getting red faced squirms.

Mil suggested cooled boiled water and I'm reluctant to do that because she's already having baby tea and I've read that too much water upsets the balance of electrolytes. The tea also helps space out feeds in a very hungry baby.

I had problems bf so gave up but she was the same then so I don't think how you feed makes a difference. I'm interested to know when you can tell if it is just colic or intolerance though.

Mmolly2013 · 30/10/2014 06:10

i thought colic was more tp do with baby crying that us unexplained and if its for more than 3 hours a day or something but with intolerence or just a wibdy baby they will be in pain but then pass trapped wind so its understandable why they are in lain.

My DD had trouble with wind (ebf) and infacol make a big difference. It took about 48 hours for it to work and I used it for a fair few weeks. She was straining over passing wind all the time.

DS by contrast is. OK most of the time but then has days with vomiting, rashes, and general unhappiness. I had a more careful look at my diet and he seems to be reacting to eggs (he is also ebf). A few hours after I had eaten eggs his symptoms would start and continue for about 12 more hours. Now as long as I avoid eggs he is fine.
