BFIng clothing hack...

Ive been layering a vest under tops to feed usually but...
I just ordered a bandeau/tube top to wear under other tops to bf without exposing my tummy! Cant be doing with flapping scarfs- dont mind getting the boob out its the belly i am conscious of. I just layer it under a top, pull the top up, tube down (like a vest). Works a dream! Much easier than a vest and means I can wear most of my favourite tops and t shirts even when BFIng (I hate most "nursing" tops).

Would never have occurred to me before as I don't do strapless EVER when not an under layer for feeding.
Had been advised about vests but a tube top works wonderfully. Also they're pretty cheap on ebay.

What a fabulous idea! Thanks for sharing.

Hi. I still use my "Belly bands" that I had round waist for making tops longer when pregnant. Wear under tshirt like a vest top that doesn't cover boobs... Similar idea I think

squizita · 28/10/2014 17:17

Yep I do that too!

I found that tube tops rolled up from the bottom so vests were easier.

A breast vest kind of gives you what you describe without needing to even adjust it each time.

squizita · 29/10/2014 01:47

Yes but the whole point is I don't want to wear expensive, ugly nursing clothes. Many of which, like maternity, are inflated in orice because of the captive market so to speak. They just aren't me. I don't like the culture of bf mums buying certain "must have" products or wearing different clothes. I love that I'm me, look like me in band t shirts etc, and breastfeed. Because it's normal and everyday.

And it really is extremely easy: there isn't any adjusting - the point of my op.

Can I ask how you pull a top up without it being really obvious that you're half undressed (even with a vest underneath)? I like quite fitted tops rather than t-shirts, so there's not much spare material to pull up above my nipple. That's why I've been wearing "breastfeeding tops" - there's very little exposure, but like you I'm not fond of being a captive market for overpriced clothes!

Is it a choice between breastfeeding tops and baggy t-shirts, or am I just incompetent? Is the unhook bra, pull bra down, lift top up, pull vest down method not a big faff too?

squizita · 29/10/2014 18:38

I wear v necks/scoop necks when more fitted, or looser t shirts. So when she starts asking, I either unhook via the side of the v neck or up the tshirt.I wear the bandeau over the boob and just pull it down enough on one side to feed. Then roll up the top on top I find it works ok but perhaps I've developed a knack at home?
Also I think I'm a bit shameless re the boob part, just my tummy I'm too vain to show!

It sounds great. I just meant with a breast vest you don't have to pull anything down so nothing to adjust beforehand or replace after, just outer garment to lift & you're away!
You're right though, pricey for a basic vest & no use when stop bf. I've found them fab for each of my DC though.

maamalady · 29/10/2014 19:11

Hmm, maybe more practice is required. So far whenever I've tried I've ended up with my entire side as well as bellybutton exposed. Exposed boob is far preferable to getting my jelly belly out!

squizita · 29/10/2014 20:35

I must admit I have taken dd to naice nct mummies club a bit peckish so I could practice out of the house (nothing like a LITTLE bit of pressure to perfect it - but not too much, as it's all women!). And I fed at home the first month or so!

I just bought cheapo stretchy vests from Primarni. Adjust straps to max length so the vest is really low over the boobs. Then dress as usual over the top.
