Returning to work frontline NHS - will I be able to express at work? Any experiences?

Returning to work as an NHS front line worker.

This is dc3, I have worked and expressed before when I worked in schools. I can express in under half an hour while eating a sandwich.

Hospital seems to be supportive in their policy, but what is the reality and the logistics?

If you have worked as a nurse, doctor, HCA or similar, did you manage to express? Where did you express and store the milk?

Yes I did wasn't problem at all. Used my breaks, had a zip up cooler bag to store all my bottles and expressing stuff in and used a general staff fridge. There was no locked room nearby so I used the hangover room or the sisters office.

It was a bit weird in the beginning but everyone was very nice and...um curious. Got asked all sorts of questions by all sorts of people!

I'm an acute medicine doctor, I went back to work at 10 months and couldn't face even asking. Regularly have shifts were there is no chance to wee let alone express.... Baby was fine with water and food though and my boobs adapted pretty quick. She was ok when I was on nights, too.

Sorry. That's not massively helpful. I sympathise it's really hard. Harder for us than baby.

I still fed her till 20 months.

Thanks.

Ultimately I will stop expressing during a shift, but will have to for a few weeks otherwise I risk getting mastitis. Ds is 10 months old so will be able to switch to cows milk soon anyway, he refuses formula.

I remember the fun of trying to find a cupboard where children would not barge in from working in schools. Luckily I will be in Paeds so they should have more understanding.
