Expressing Question

Just a quick one for the more experienced expressers out there, can you add to already expressed milk from different expressing sessions? I have just expressed now so can I add to that if I express again in the morning? I seem to remember from when I had DS that you could add to it within a 24 hour period but I seem to remember being given different advice. Also can you then freeze it? Thanks

Hi dreaming, I'm not an experienced expresser but I'm fairly certain i have recently read in an NHS booklet on bf that you can collect milk (stored in fridge of course) for up to 5days & then freeze it for up to 3 months.
Can't get to the booklet just now to confirm as it's downstairs & I'm upstairs feeding! But hopefully someone more experienced will be along soon or I can check when DS nods off!

Thank you fidgety. I don't remember being given a leaflet that talked about expressing.

It has a peach-coloured cover & talked about all the aspects of bf-ing, (how &why to do it, expressing, mastitis etc etc) was given it by mw so I'm assuming its NHS, will check, when I can get to it...

Oops, sorry for the delay! Booklet is called Successful Breadtfeeding & is from Oxford University Hospital NHS Trust, so I'm not sure if it's available nationally.
It says expressed milk can be
-kept at room temperature for up to 6 hours
-kept in main part of fridge & added to over the next 5days
-then it can be frozen for up to 6m in a 3 star freezer (store in small amounts so you can defrost quickly either in fridge overnight or standing in a jug of warm water if needed more quickly)
-once thawed keep in fridge if not for immediate use
-discard thawed milk after 12hours

HTH!

Thank you so much that answers all of my questions!!

I don't have that booklet I looked through all of the ones I have earlier...I wish I did!

This suggests a slightly different answer

The link above is for prem babies but in that page is this link
kellymom.com/bf/pumpingmoms/milkstorage/milkstorage/
Info is in the table lower down the page, very similar to what the booklet said.
