Blocked duct due to dropping a feed

As my 8mo is now on 3 meals a day, I dropped his mid day feed at the weekend. Am now badly engorged on one side & in mild pain despite lots of night feeding on that side. Scared of developing mastitis. What else can I do to clear the blockage? Would ibuprofen help?

Poor you same happened to me last week. Feed feed feed. Warm compresses. Gentle massage. I found the kellymom website helpful too

Express? Whenever I dropped a feed I expressed at the time the feed would have been at, reducing the amount expressed gradually over about 10 days until stopping.

I froze the milk and used it in porridge etc. for DS.

I would express loads to help clear the blockage at first though if I were you - and only start reducing the amount once everything's back to normal.

Other tips: check for a white bleb on the nipple and scrape it off with a clean fingernail if there is. Hand express in the shower or bath, massage in direction of milk flow with a warm flannel or warm shower head.
Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks, have done the combing in the shower trick & I can feel a number of lumps so taking to bed for the day & will let DC feed as much as possible. Usually have no problem pumping but this morning I managed to express next to nothing.

Just to wrap up this thread - things evened out, the blocked duct cleared and it's much less painful now. Am guessing it'll be the same process with each feed as I drop them, but am thankful for no mastitis!
