When to try bottle with dc2 if dc1 bottle refused?

With dc1 we made a series of attempts from 4 wks on to get her to take a bottle so we could share night shifts - no luck. Have dc2, bf going v well, she was back at birthweight on day 5, when did you start trying a bottle with dc2? I'm thinking of trying this week (around 2 wks old).

I have 4 DC's and all have been different, so just try when you want. Did find it helped getting DH to do it when I was out of the house. Apparently it's something to do with smelling mum, but that could be an old wives tale.

Good luck.

Thanks frazmum, hopefully dc2 is going to see the attraction of a bottle while mummy's out!

I've found the nipple of the bottle makes a difference. I'm using level 2 dr brown nipples and the milk drops out so ds immediately starts sucking. With my other medela bottle he has to suck so that was a no go.

Dd1 was a bottle refuser, never ever got her to have one but left it until 8 weeks to try which I think was too late. With dd2 I have just given her a couple of bottles of expressed milk at 4 weeks and she has taken it perfectly and had no problem going back on the boob straight after. I have used tommy tippee closer to nature bottles on health visitors advice and they seem to be fine. I don't intend to give her a bottle very often as pumping makes me quite sore but it's nice to have the option! Good luck
