"Safest" way to prepare FF bottles

Hi
I am due first baby in just a few weeks Grin and intend to FF from the beginning.
Midwives etc not very forthcoming with information on FF as they don't want to be seen to encourage it..

What I'd like opinions on is what is the safest way to prepare bottles? I know there is a huge emphasis on making as you go but I just cant imagine leaving baby crying for possibly half an hour at 3am to the kettle cools down enough Confused

Also aware that the water needs to be over 70 degrees to kill of bacteria in formula
Any thoughts or advice very welcome Smile

Just realised that might be interpreted as me being ant-formula. I'm not, I'm just naturally cautious

My friend is a nanny in the States. The official guidance there is to mix formula with cooled, boiled water. She looked at me in horror when I told her about the official guidelines here.

Yeah the guidelines are different in the states. They looked at the small risk of babies dying from the bacteria in the powder and the greater risk of babies being scalded by formula which was too hot and decided to go with the using cooker water guidance. That's why I usually refer to the "guidelines in the uk".

Jilted/Gembles some of the 'special' formulas have to be made up in a certain way due to what is added to them - it's a risk v benefits calculation.

Any regular formula needs to be made up with water at 70deg mixed with the formula. The ONLY reason people aren't encouraged to add cold water is that there is a worry people wont add the correct amount.

MoreSnow - yes it does.

With DC1 I started the day by making two bottles and just replaced one as it was used, so I always had two in the fridge. At night I took a bottle to bed in a cool bag with ice blocks. Luckily DC1 never minded cold milk.

DC2 is EBF which is easier tbh, but that's your choice of course :)
