My BF baby has no bowel movement for 10 days. But plenty wet nappies. I am worried if it is still normal.

He is so very young - please get this checked by a medical professional. It's not unusual for ND babies to have long gaps between poos but at this age err on the side of caution.

GalensOyster · 14/10/2014 19:26

ND should read BF. Bloody autocorrect.

Breastfed babies don't poo as much as there's all good things in breast milk so notice waste.
However if baby is uncomfortable or straining, or does some tiny rabbit like poos, then a trip to the HV or Dr might be a good idea.

Notice = not much

Is your midwife still visiting? At 2.5 weeks newborns should be pooing daily ideally. I would call them for advice and see the GP tomorrow if there's no movement.

BF babies can have big gaps between pooing, but at such a young age I would get a medical opinion.

Superworm · 14/10/2014 19:56

Amy what was the consistency and colour of the last poo?

HavanaSlife · 14/10/2014 19:58

I think you should phone the mw/gp I know people say bf babies can go longer without pooing (not my experiance!) But 10 days is a long time

Superworm · 14/10/2014 20:03

Bf baby can go days without pooing but really it's only if they are a bit older you expect it. At 2.5 weeks, you could expect to see a lot more poo.

anothergenericname · 14/10/2014 20:04

is baby in any apparent discomfort?
BF babies differ greatly - mine pooed 5-12 times a fucking day, some I know could go a fortnight between shits, but when they did it was a major explosion! Take him to see MW tomorrow if you're concerned, but it is very likely just normal, especially if lots of wet nappies.

Have you tried gentle clockwise tummy massage and warm baths? I always found a warm bath of clean water would encourage a great big poo!
Cycling their legs can help get things moving too

My DS never pooed daily, even as a newborn. Most of his meconium was expelled at birth, as he was in distress, so we only ever had one meconium nappy. He had plenty of wet nappies and gained weight beautifully. However he only pooed fortnightly! At 4 weeks old he had pooed twice. At 5 months, this has increased to weekly, and I can set my clock to it (Monday mornings!) Our specialist said he had an unusually mature gut, and the fact he was a 42 weeker may have been relevant. He has never vomited either. I feel really lucky TBH.
