Contraception whilst breastfeeding

Is there anyone out there knowledgeable about the pill when bfing? I can remember a link ages ago that it wasn't totally ruled out but can't find anything via Google.

I hated the mini pill, don't want coil or implant. Condoms is how we have dc3 so don't trust them. Just want something simple that works!

the combined pill can affect milk supply which is why it isnt recommended especially before 6 months old. There are several types of mini pill so if one doesnt suit you could always try a different one

What about post 6 months? My gp seems to say not at all whilst bf, which I know isn't right as I had it at 18 months before.

I was on cerazette and the gp was very gloomy about another being better as that was the most easily tolerated or something?

Sorry, cross posted with the link. Won't load on my phone. Will read later. Thanks.

different mini pills suit different people though so another one may work better for you.

The NCT website says this:

The combined pill is can be prescribed from six months after birth for women who are breastfeeding. It does not appear to affect either the quantity or the quality of breastmilk after this time, although some women prefer not to go down this route.

My gp also seemed to think progesterone only methods were all that is possible during breastfeeding. I think there is a big difference between six months and 18 months. A six month old gets most of their nutrition from milk so a dip in supply could be a problem. An 18 month old mostly eats solid food, a reduction in milk supply is less of a big deal. I found cerazette fine when I was on it. No periods either which was nice. But obviously different pills suit different people. The copper coil is a highly effective non hormonal method. It is simple in that you can't forget it and it works. Other than that you might find gp says mini pill or condoms.

Of course, you are not obliged to tell the gp you are bf if you are happy to go with the nct advice of combined pill OK after six months.

I just wish the advice was consistent.

Might end up trying a mini pill up to 12 months and switch after that if not happy ( I realise 6 and 18 months is v different. I just meant 'never when bf' must be wrongSmile ). Was bloody excellent contraception last time though- I bled constantly and had no sex drive!

A coil is definitely out. I don't like the method of operation and have a weird response to the idea of it being stuck in me (I am a freak. For 10 years after teeth braces I had occasional nightmaresHmm )
