Expressing problems

I'm probably missing something really obvious but I don't seem to be able express in any volume at the moment.

My baby is mix-fed and I used to happily express 90ml in one sitting around 2-3 times a day. Now it's more like 40ml.

I have tried BF and expressing more, relaxing more, hydrating more, avoiding alcohol completely, getting lots of sleep. Nothing seems to up the volume.

The one day last week when I was back to previous volumes was after a very full-on KIT day in my office where I had very little water and no lunch! It was an enjoyable day so lots of adrenaline but the only thing nutritional thing I had was a fresh beetroot/apple/celery juice in the morning.

I'm really confused and trying really hard not to let the frustration make things worse! All suggestions and advice much appreciated....

Think that the volume and quality if the food you eat make very little difference, so don't worry too much about that. Have you given one of the Bfing Helplines a call? I was always a bit rubbish with expressing so can't be of much help sorry.

I've found that expressing at the same time each day helps, boobs must get used to it the same way they get in synch with a baby.

I agree, expressing at the same time each day will help your body to increase it's supply then and make it easier for you. Morning are when you have the most milk but you can do it anytime if the day. It's the regularity of it that helps Smile

I got on best when watching TV or similar, think because of the distraction from worrying about it... That was in the early days though, haven't tried recently.

Try:

Massaging the breast first - I used Weleda Nursing Oil
Look at a photo of your baby
Smell an item of pre- worn baby clothes
Listen to Maggie Howell's Hypnotherapy for Breastfeeding
Pump around the same time every day.
