Can I still use 7 year old bottles?

My ds 1 and 2 are 7 and 5 and I had Avent and Tommee Tippee bottles. I have stored them in the loft. Dd3 is 4 days old and I have made the decision to stop breastfeeding. Do you think the bottles will still be okay for use if I wash and sterilise them or should I buy new?

For the sake of a tenner id buy new. Dc2 is due in a few weeks and ive binned all of dd(3yo)s bottles and got new.

Theres something a bit icky about bottles and teats being up.in a loft for years and then re used. Especially as they arent expensive.

I don't know whether there's any official advice but I suspect their lifespan relates more to how often they are washed/sterilised/used rather than an actual length of time.

I think it's the teats that are most likely to wear out (also the most difficult bits to clean properly) so maybe you could get new teats for the old bottles?

Bottle designs change quite a bit....some great Avent offers on I'd get some new ones.

I used a few of a friend's 7yo DS's old Avent ones in the first few weeks when I had to unexpectedly exclusively express for my DS.

However, they had been used only for a few months of expressing when she went back to work, not a couple of years of regular FFing. I think I'd consider it worth buying some new ones in your situation, but if you're looking at them and thinking they still look as good as new then as long as they're sterile I can't see what the problem would be.

I'd buy new teats as they are perishable.

I've had two babies in three years and both were FF from three weeks old. I got new teats for DS but used the same bottles, however we had about ten bottles on rotation so they were in good nick. I also moved DD on to cheapie tesco own brand bottles at 12 months when she switched to cows milk. We are undecided about having a DC3, but I've decided to get rid of the bottles when DS moves on to cows milk and if (massive if!!) we have DC3 will get new ones. So in answer to your question I think I would get new ones.

I would buy new ones. Plastic breaks down.

stargirl1701 · 12/10/2014 23:39

Buy new. I would only reuse glass bottles. Never reuse teats.

WiggleGinger · 12/10/2014 23:45

But new.
They aren't expensive.
Plus new technology means current bottles are BPA free

It's recomemed to get new bottles, for how cheep they are I would get new. I wouldn't dream of reusing the teats they dont last long at all.
