Can a healthy baby poo too much? Worried!

3 week pfb. Might be being a fuss pot but...
In the last 2 1/2 hrs she has done 3 big poos and 2 heavy wees. Much more than usual!
However the texture and colour (basically cheapo chip shop curry sauce yellow... similar sticky texture too lol!) Is same as usual. MW and HV have seen poos and declared them normal for a bf baby. She isn't hot and bar a tiny milk spit up which she does sometimes nothing has come out her mouth.
So its just too much (I assume a poorly baby would have green watery or hard poo).
Could she get dehydrated?
Been offering the boob more just in case. She has been snacking but not much hungrier than usual.
Cries listing when wiped down/displeased, but alert and/or napping normally otherwise.

Can a healthy baby poo too much?? ShockShock

Listing? Lusty! Nowt wron with her lungs or alertness.
She fed a lot this morning. FX she just saved it all up as was out with the pram 12-3 and she snoozed throughout.

Congrats on your little DD squizita.

In the first few weeks it's common for BF babies to poo after every feed because your milk contains a laxative property to help ensure all the meconium leaves LOs system.

DS pooed every feed until 6 weeks and then he became more regular.

Now he's almost 13mo and I am pg with DC2. Those explosive newborn nappies have returned somewhat, apparently as my milk changes to the type needed to feed a newborn!

Our bodies are flipping amazing Grin

Ps. 3 weeks is growth spurt time, I think, so more feeding may also lead to more pooing.

squizita · 11/10/2014 18:00

Thanks that's very reassuring Grin explosive is right! And she picks her moments!
Dh is playing a game of "make raspberry sounds" with her which may be tempting fate..!

Squiz! How's things? Dd was 3 weeks yesterday and my god can she poo!! Dd1 was exactly the same so don't worry about it. Honest to god, dd2 has the most explosive poos and can literally poop all day (and night!) long. It'll stop and then you'll worry about that! Grin The worrying never ends.

Just make sure you ALWAYS make sure they've finished before lifting their legs to take the nappy away or they'll poo all over the toilet cubicle meaning you have to spend way too long and use a whole packet of wipes cleaning up BlushGrin

Haha mine loves to wee after a poo, or poo after a wee ... but always in the few seconds between old nappy opening and new one on. Extra points if mummy is leaning in close to wipe her down in a clean top.

Dd is 10 weeks old and still poos all the time! We have a few nappies full of poo every day, but the hv said it was normal. We also get plenty of wees and poos during nappy changes, however quick we are, typically when I put the sudocrem on.

squizita · 11/10/2014 19:42

Well I think the food link is there - just had a long nap (her not me) not so much as a windy parp! She'll want an evening drink soon and I bet will fill her nappy after...

Yep. DS2 (9 weeks) pooed CONTINUOUSLY up until a few weeks ago. I'd forgotten what a pigging bear night time nappy changes were. I was so relieved when the night poos stopped and he's now down to two or three well-defined poos per day, rather than a continuous leak.

DS1 remained a six-poos-a-day man until well after he was weaned. I guess my BM had a bit more Movicol in it for him than for DS2 Grin

PenguinsIsSleepDeprived · 11/10/2014 20:28

Sounds perfectly normal. As long as you bf on demand you really don't need to worry about dehydration - it's a mighty clever system (usual disclaimer that poorly/premmie/etc babies are different).

My son is five months and still often poos 3+ times a day. Once in a while he doesn't go for 24 hours and then we know we're in for a shit storm!

squizita · 11/10/2014 20:37

Typical ... She's now been asleep for 3 1/2 hours and I'm wondering why she hasn't demanded a feed yet as 8 pm she's usually hungry which I may well rue when it's midnight and she's feeding and pooing just much later than usual! Or closer together!
