Toddlers, tongue/lip tie and reflux - your experiences please

My 25 month old seems to have an upper lip tie, and I suspect a posterior tongue tie too. Like so many of these little tigers, he has reflux. Also, he's really "windy", and still does huge burps now. He's not the greatest of eaters either. The reflux is my biggest concern at the moment. He seems to be outgrowing his omeprazole dose - he's been on the maximum paediatric dose since he was 7 months old. He's started waking at night screaming again. Add to that, our crap paediatrician has just seen him in clinic and seems to be implying it's all (reflux, CMPI, egg intolerance) in my head. Feeling really despondent about it all to be honest.

Am trying to convince DH that we should get DS seen by Dr Levinkind in London.

In the meantime, does anyone have any positive stories of improvement in/resolution of reflux after division of tongue/lip tie in a toddler? Or even if it didn't help at all ... Would love to hear your experiences.

Will also post this elsewhere - couldn't think of the best place to put it.

Are you sure the gassy in tummy isn't related to the allergies? That is much more likely.

DS had tongue and lip tie lasered, made no different sadly. He has multiple allergies, and once ALL traces of dairy, soya, egg and wheat was removed from his diet, that's when we saw a HUGE difference in him and he 'settled'.

Thanks for the reply.

No, I don't think so, though I guess it's possible. He's been pretty much dairy and soya free since 2 weeks of age, aside from the occasional trials we've done. The egg intolerance is relatively new - he's been egg free for a few months now.

He burps immediately after eating, and drinking milk. I think he just swallows a lot of air when eating/drinking - even when he was tiny and first on solids he'd need burping halfway through his rice cereal, bless him (yes, I did rice cereal with my first born, in my ignorance! Before I knew it was a nutritional wasteland).

Sorry just realised that I had originally said he was "windy" - by that I meant "burpy". Sleep deprived, sorry Confused

I suppose it's always a worth a shot then (the tongue tie). Speak to Dr Levinkind and see what he thinks.

Thanks - just have to convince DH now!

I don't think it can do any harm for him to be assessed. I guess I have to balance that with my fervent hope (which I fully expect to be dashed) that this is the magic solution we've been waiting for.

So glad things have settled for your DS. Did he have reflux symptoms before you sorted out the dietary issues?

Yes had reflux issues, was on lansoparazole from 3-7 months. When teething, returns a bit, but no where near as bad as before.

Don't expect a miracle cure with tt; it may not make a difference at all.

Thanks for the reality check.

I'm just really disappointed with his reflux and food intolerance treatment on the NHS. I can't get anyone to take me seriously, so I am just hoping at least one of them will miraculously get better so it's one less thing to worry about. I know deep down that I'm being unrealistic Sad
