Seriously. Pain is so bad I've compared it to labour pains! I think I might vomit. Has been going on since yesterday.

He latches on and seems to suck so tightly that there is this terrible terrible pain. Any ideas what it wrong, or what I can do?

Thanks

Could be a number of things - you've got thrush on your nipple (will be in his mouth also so look for white spots), you've got a blocked duct, he's teething and has adjusted his latch because he's in pain.

Go back to basics with positioning, make sure he's getting a big mouthful of nipple etc.

Does it help if you try a different hold?

Thanks so much for response.
No sign of thrush.
Blocked duct a possibility, one boob seems huge. But the pain is on bothConfused

Teething...hmm, we've had lots of dribbling and hand eating. But I thought/hoped he was too young!

Definitely not too young for teething, in which case, it should pass soon.

If one of your boobs is huge - does it have any red patches? Tender to the touch? Do you have a fever? If yes to any of these, could be mastitis, and you'd need antibiotics pronto.

Thrush is not always visible in the baby's mouth, even if it is present in the breast. Do you have a sort of general burning feeling while feeding?

Make sure to try to feed lots off of the swollen breast.

As a temporary measure, try expressing and feeding expressed milk. If the expressing hurts, then it's probably a problem with a thrush or bacterial infection in your breast (unless, of course, the baby's caused damage to the nipple with biting).

Definitely not too young for teething, mine both had 4 teeth - two top, two bottom - by about 12/13 weeks old.

Cat is right you don't necessarily see thrush for it to be there. Do you get pain in your breast after feeding?

Thanks for suggestions. I have been really careful with latch today and it's definitely getting less painful. Boob is still crazy big, but hopefully it will calm down. No red patches or hotness. Will keep an eye out for any changes.
