Dd is 4 1/2 months exclusively breastfed, today she had at least three dirty nappies before 11 am unusual for her and then one had a bit of mucus and tiny spots of blood in then last two were mucus and green, nappies didnt seem as wet today either.
Is this ok?

Green poo not usually a problem, the mucus and blood would make me a bit concerned though. She possibly has a little infection. I'd take her to the doc tomorrow (save the nappies to take with you). HTH.

ok, i was trying to decide between the gp or health visitor clinic tomorrow thanks for the help

I was told my HV that green nappies were a sign that baby had not taken any hind milk during previous feed. Not sure bout the mucus and blood tho, would def go get it checked.

Went to gp whi said she seemed fine perhaps there was a slight infection, and gave me a vial with a scoop for a stool sample, she says i can just scoop up a bit of poo and send it off, so i guess she hasnt seen the consistency of breastfed baby poo that def wont work!

I have just had the green poo problem with my bf 6 week old and been unable to find much information about what might cause it and whether it is a problem. One suggestion was the "lack of hind milk" idea, which is definately not the case, another suggestion was it was something in my diet which I suspect may have been panadol which I was taking for a sore c-section wound. Now that I've stopped the panadol the green poo has also stopped. I'd also appreciate any other ideas people have.

Hope you get an answer quickly, littleducks

The hind milk theory is, apparently, just that: a theory. Tiktok once put forward the theory that it's where the milk has passed quickly through the gut. My HV said "because sometimes they're green"...

I think it's due to wind though - having switched to reusable nappies I've discovered that normal mustard breastfed baby poo turns green after contact with the air for a while. But that's only based on my experience with nappies, not any basis in actualy medical fact

Hi, my breastfed dd poos a lot and it is sometimes greenish and/or there is mucus and a trace of blood in it. She is outwardly very well and lively and so the GP said not to worry that it could just be a slight anal fissure, with increased amount of pooing, like piles. I noticed it occurs more often after my eating porridge!! The poo usually gets greener the more it stays in the nappy and actually comes out yellowy. As it occurs only infrequently I haven't pursued it further - my daughter is putting on loads of weight - but get it checked out just to be sure.
