She's got teeth - OUCH!

Little girl is 5 months old and 2 beautiful little teeth have poked though ... however, sometimes when she feeds she starts teething on me and it hurts like hell!

Any magic solutions or is it a case of just stopping her when she does and restarting a moment later?

try using some gel - Dentinox or Calgel - before she feeds.

littlepiggie · 26/09/2006 21:02

pull her in or take her off and say a firm no.
Ds has started this for the second time even though no teeth, say bf counciler today and that is what she advised.

Agrre with LIZS, teeting gel before feed and then pull her off asap when she bites .
My DS did this a few times for a couple of days, twice really hard and suddenly, but a few times playfully whilst laughing to check how I would react..
Good luck!

my dd also did this a few times veeeeeery sore, but she stopped after a few pull offs and firm no's. good luck

Will try the teething gel and saying a firm no. Never used the word 'no' with her yet so I don't supposed she knows what it means yet - guess she's about to find out!

Pulling off and saying no!, or pulling her face into your chest to make her let go are the usual ways. Neither worked with ds , he just went through phases of doing it, then stopped, then a few months later sterted again. He also seemed to find me shouting with pain hilarious so it only encouraged him to do it more. Oh, then he discovered that if I pulled him into my boob to try and make him stop, and he breathed out, it would blow a raspberry noise which was so hilarious for him I don;t know how he got any milk until he grew out of that particular phase.

Sorry, not very constructive, but you're definitely not alone!

WriggleJiggle · 26/09/2006 21:21

raspberry noises - thats hilarious 2happy - sorry, it can't have been pleasant, but its certainly made me laugh

I know, wrigglejiggle. The worst thing is it was hilarious, but I made the mistake of laughing out loud the first time he did it, and it only encouraged him more. Imagine, every feed, suck, suck, bite, raspberry, giggle...

WriggleJiggle · 26/09/2006 21:25

Sorry. Thats exactly the type of thing she's likely to do.

Good luck, then!

wriggle, my dd(6mths)has 2 teethand did it once when feeding and i pulled her off quick by pulling one side of her mouth into a smile. all fine. last saturday she was playing in the bed with DH whilst i was trying to sleep (!) and she very determinedly face planted into my boob and BIT my nipple!she so knew what shw was doing!i gave her to DH and said take her away!trouble ahead me thinks

I had this problem with DD2, and still occasionally. I was advised to flick her under the chin which gave her 'pain' and broke the latch. Funny enough, her favourite thing to do now is to suck, babble, blow a raspberry and then suck again. Ok at home but not out and about!

CurlyJones · 27/09/2006 19:23

wriggle, ds2 was born with a tooth which had to be removed when he was 11 days old. My scream when he bit stopped him until his other teeth came through. He is still feeding at 19 months and we are both happy.
