Just being a paranoid new mum.
Have a 2 day old. Skin to skin and helpful mw got her feeding hours after birth. She had her 1st non meconium poo 12 hrs later and has a powerful little suck!
However she doesn't feed all the time - I feed on demand but even so often she just has a nap on the boob, nor does she feed for ages (more like determined suckling for minutes at a time). She has had 4 poo nappies (3 yesterday 1 today) and some wee nappies in between. MW says she's doing well and actually quite advanced.
For some reason I worry she isn't eating enough!
She seems feisty and strong.
Am I being a pfb fuss pot? Will I be ruing the day I worried when my milk comes in and she demands hour long feeds..? Wink

She's fine, don't worry! Remember her stomach is tiny so it fills up very quickly and also empties quickly! If you have plenty of wet and dirty nappies all is well, enjoy her!

Try not to worry babies have tiny stomachs. This might help.

squizita, I remember you from the pregnancy board, congratulations on your new daughter!!! I'm obv no expert as I'm a ftm with a 6 week old, but that sounds like a really great start. I would've love that feeding start (we wound up finding out about a thick posterior tongue told at 3 weeks). Enjoy her - she'll be guzzling down the ml's in no time!

I am not a bfing professional or anything. But try not to stress. You don't need to know how much she's taking. You need to watch out for wet nappies, and dirty nappies gradually changing colour from black tar to mustard yellow. And the other signs that the mw will be looking out for.

My three kids have each rarely fed for more than 10 minutes at a time (DS sometimes will, DD1 never did).

Also, in the nicest possible way, she is less than 48 hours old (if I got the time right from the other thread). They often take a while to 'wake up' to the world. They often do big long stretches of sleep to recover from the birth and their tiny tummies can't take much at a time. It could all be very different in a few days' time!

Thanks guys!! Git her on the breast now ... bless think she couldn't get latched ob she was screaming with frustration. Only happens at midnight never 1pm! Eventually she realised she needed to latch and suck not thrash. Now she's nicely settled phew.
