I don't know why but my nearly 6 month old DS who is EBF seems to be refusing to feed.

It's been going on for almost a week now and I don't know what to do.

He's always been a brilliant feeder whereas now he's just so disinterested. If I put him to the breast he will either half hearted my suck for a few minutes and then detach or he will just arch, push himself away from me and cry.

We were in A&E with him the other night because he hadn't fed properly for about 3 days (also with signs of gastroenteritis) and I thought things were starting to improve a little yesterday but now they are worsening again.

It's currently 01.20am : He had an ok-ish feed at 3pm yesterday, a few sucks at 5pm, a five minute lazy feed at 8pm and is refusing to feed again now.

His last two nappies have been barely damp.

The Doctors in A&E gave him a good check over and he doesn't any throat or ear infections that may account for his reluctance.

Teething gels and powders make no difference. When he is feeding he isn't in any discomfort it really is a case of him just not being bothered.

When I'm trying to get him to feed he will have my nipple in his mouth, he will be nicely attached but he just won't suck - he just lies there staring into space.

I'm worried about his health, I'm frustrated and I'm also really upset because I don't know what I'm doing wrong or how to fix it.

Admittedly I am very tearful as I write this. I just don't understand why he won't feed.

How many wet nappies is he having in 24hrs and are you giving him other fluids? If he is becoming dehydrated he won't have the energy to feed.

If he has a tummy bug he may be off his food but you need to give water or dioralyte. You can try giving him 5mls of BM/water in a syringe every 5-10mins to get his fluid intake up.

He's having wet nappies ok and seems ok in himself. He's pretty moany and grizzly but he's still playful and smiley.

I'm just confused as to why my Boob Monster baby who would take it whenever it was offered is now hardly interested.

I feel that when he does have a feed it's only because he really needs it and will feed for the least amount of time possible.

I'm trying not to take it as a personal rejection as I know babies can go through strange phases but it's still a bit upsetting.
