Vitamin D drops

I believe I'm supposed to give baby vitamin D as at 6 months he's on less than 500ml formula. But when I went into the pharmacy today they only seemed to have multivitamin liquid.

What has everyone else done? (In the UK)

I buy the normal tablets of 500 iu (12.5 ug) at boots or h&b.
put on a spoon with milk or juice (whatever is thd preferred liquid) and give off the spoon. the tablets dissolve very quickly.

My local sure start children's centre gives out the NHS children's vitamin drops. I think it used to be the case that you were only eligible if on certain benefits or tax credits but at the weaning info session I went to the HV said the rules have been changed and apparently now all under 2s get them free.

I may have got this wrong, but they certainly handed out vitamin drops to all the parents at the weaning session I attended -- maybe give your HV a call and check with her? Also I think the NHS drops contain vit C and A as well as D. Hope that helps!

My DC fight over who gets to be first to have Abidec every evening. I think it tastes revolting but they love it!

I got mine in boots they are vitamin d drops not multi vitamin. I just put a drop in her breakfast. You can also rub drop on nipple before breastfeed

NHS advice is that from 6mo you should give vitamins A & C as well as D.

The right dose of vitamin D for a baby is 7-8.5 micrograms per day, so the adult dose is too much. It's best to buy vitamins designed specifically for children the right age.

I've found it hard to get Vitamin D alone, but Holland & Barrett do this one. (MIL approves of it, apparently it's the right sort of vit D, in the right sort of oil, and without sugars.)

However, I usually get a multivitamin like Abidec instead.
